It was pretty absurd and all over here and other places in 2017. It had zero bearing in reality. Remember when some people thought Oprah would run because of a speech that wasn't even political? It's like some people believed that we live in a TV series or something.

Even I can't agree with it. It was incredibly stupid but even "muh trends" isn't as dumb as "because Trump".

It's difficult to say since there were enough bad takes on the election, from the Democratic primary on, to reach the character limit in a post.

I don't know if it was the dumbest take, because let's not forget that there were some people predicting Trump to win California.

But it was probably the biggest and most mainstream among all the dumb takes.

I remember some folks predicting that mail-ballot tampering would turn New Jersey & New York into tossups

I'm talking about widespread takes. Although one that's arguably even dumber than this one that's fairly widespread is the notion that Trump actually came close to overturning the election results after the election, which is pretty laughable. (and not the storming of the Capitol did not even come remotely close to overturning the election results.)

No, but it was a very stupid take with no basis on anything. However, I think this was much more prevalent after the 2016 election than in 2020.

People desperately want to believe that both parties are equally the same. I have to confess I fell for a little bit of the Kanye hype in the immediate aftermath of the 2016 election, though.

The dumbest take was black rural farmers in SW Georgia turning out for Perdue

“Oprah will be the nominee” and “The Starbucks CEO will run as an independent and split the vote to guarantee a Trump win” were stupider IMO

Well, Schultz was seriously contemplating a presidential bid for some time before he ultimately decided not to go for it.  I recall seeing an interview of his by 60 Minutes during that speculative period. He seemed to be particularly concerned that someone like Bernie Sanders would obtain the nomination-which of course, ultimately didn't happen.

We mentioned many of the laughable takes from the election season, but one nobody has mentioned was the "Trump will ban TikTok, leading to a youth surge against Trump."

Not that stupid. We don't know how it would have played out — no celebrity gave it a shot.

Not really that dumb as Trump did come pretty close to banning TikTok.
