The average American would be like, "I don't follow politics except between July and November of an election year, that name means nothing to me."

More astute politics fans would be like, "wow wouldn't he be really old then? I know he was the youngest Senator but 2020 is a really long time from now."

People who really know the Senate or Delaware politics might say "Wait his son's named Joe Biden III, maybe that's who they're talking about."

He would've probably assumed, unless you told him otherwise, he won in 2016 as well.
