Maybe, because while he's pro-Trump, he doesn't seem particularly conservative. Still, all he'd need is Trump's endorsement and he'd cruise through the primary.

I think he might have a good chance to hang on if he were elected to a statewide office in California as a Republican since California has jungle primaries.

If he were a congressman in California he might have to be more conservative to hold onto his seat unless he was representing a seat that was more Democratic but still competitive.

He would probably have been elected in a red wave year in a seat that the Republicans didn't count on flipping and didn't try hard for or else the party probably would have fielded someone more conservative for that seat.
