I seen videos, didn’t think it was that severe, people’s pipes are bursting in their houses, toilets are frozen and the electric grid is being strained.

Harvey didn’t turn Texas blue. But it did help make the Houston are bluer in the 2018 midterms.

This could a similar effect state wide but failed to make it in 2022, much less 2024.

It won't, it's solid Red state

The only D that can win a statewide race is Joaquin Castro and he hasn't ruled out 2024, but not 2022

Probably won't, unless the GOP really sustains the "wind turbines are why the power went out" message until 2024, it would likely help them. But 3 years and 9 months is a very long time.

I don't think it will affect the election

The average citizen is freezing and frustrated but I don't think the average citizen is sitting around thinking "if only previous republican governors connected us to one of the two national grids"

Because tbh this is a abscure fact that I didn't even know about until this storm and only knew from woke instragram accounts

Most Texans will think this is a once in a century storm and there was no way to expect this. This will be forgotten in a month. Did anyone talk about Hurricane Harvey in 2018?

Hurricane Harvey was a huge factor in 2018 for the last Republican office holders in Harris County (Houston) losing that year.

Maybe if the exact same thing happens as an October surprise that year.

Was it because of Hurricane Harvey or suburban trends, blue wave year, cottails from Beto's campaign?

I’d be one to say it’ll have a much bigger impact on statewide elections in Texas in 2022.

It makes the case for a Green New Deal and massive investments in our infrastructure and conversion to Green Energy.

A combination of all. But Hurricane Harvey was a significant factor to many races in the Houston area.

It probably doomed whatever faint chances either Abbott or Cruz had of being on either the top or bottom of the Republican Presidential ticket in 2024, but other than that, nada.

It will be too much in the past by autumn 2024. It might affect some statewide races, though.

The storm itself is a footnote that everyone remembers but no one cares about.

Cruz is up for reelection in 2024. He might lose a significant bit of support (I haven't seen how Cruz's approval has changed), which would also hurt the Republican presidential nominee by a bit. No major historical details would be different unless Texas was already bound to be a very close state in 2024.

Abbott and Cruz never had a chance anyway.

Almost certainly none on the top of the ticket, but they would  have had a shot to pull a Pence and be picked as a running mate to secure the evangelical base for a nominee the evangelicals were leery of as they originally were of Trump.

By the time the 2024 election rolls around this storm will have very little if any effect on how people vote, not to mention people who move to Texas after the storm and its aftermath are in the rear view mirror.

About as much as the Oroville Dam crisis shaped the 2020 election.
