The most recent that a Republican President has served in the Senate is January 1, 1953 (Nixon), and no Republican President since (other than Nixon) has ever served in the Senate, while four Democrats since have (Kennedy, Johnson, Obama, and Biden).

The most recent that a Democratic President has served in the Senate is January 15, 2009 (Biden), just two months after Obama resigned from the Senate after the Obama-Biden ticket won. The most recent Democratic President to have never served in the Senate is Bill Clinton.

The only Presidents to have served in the House since Nixon's resignation were both Republicans who had been their predecessors' Vice Presidents (Ford and Bush 41).

The most recently any President has served as a Governor is December 21, 2000 (Dubya); however, there's been at least one longer drought before, since no President served as a Governor between December 31, 1932 (FDR) and January 2, 1967 (Reagan). All intervening Presidents came up through either the military brass (Ike) or Congress (all the others), except for Carter, whose single term as Governor of Georgia coincided with Reagan's second term as Governor of California.

There were Chester Alan Arthur birthers because his Vermont birthplace was so close to the Canadian border.

And those birthers were just as stupid as Obama's because, even if Arthur had been born in Canada, he would've still been able to claim natural-born citizenship since his mom was born in & had recently resided in the U.S., just as Obama would've claimed it even if he'd been born in Kenya since his mom was born in & had recently lived in the U.S. too.

Joe Biden became the oldest person ever to be President immediately on the day of his inauguration, beating the record previously held by Reagan on his last day in office by a few months.

Indeed, & Biden sets the new record in this category every day as well. Ironically enough, Reagan's exact age of 77 years & 349 days when he left office on Jan. 20th, 1989, would later be Biden's exact age on his Election Day, Nov. 3rd, 2020.

Kamala Harris is the first member of a Democratic ticket from a Western state. All Western Presidents have been California Republicans, the only Western Vice Presidents before Harris were Nixon and Cheney, and all unsuccessful previous Western nominees were Republicans as well.

[...]

Extremely weird, though, that the only examples are Joseph Lane from 1860, when Oregon was just freshly admitted, and Kamala Harris in 2020 after the whole West had been part of the Union for over a century.

For all the sh*t that's talked about the Democrats just being nothing more than the party of California's coastal elites, it's ironic as all hell that we didn't actually get around to putting an actual Californian on the ticket 'til literally just now.

In fact, Buchanan is the only lifetime bachelor President (Cleveland was a bachelor when he became President the first time, but married a year and a half into his term), and he is the last President not to have had any biological children. The only other Presidents not to have any biological children are Washington, Madison, and Jackson, although all three did have adoptive or stepchildren-and in the cases of Washington and Madison, their adoptive children were the biological children of their wives from their first marriages.

George H.W. Bush’s maternal relations, the Walkers,  were wealthier and more closely connected to both him and the modern Bush political family than his paternal side, with Prescott Bush having been a rather stern, imposing, and remote father figure. The name of the Kennebunkport, Maine family compound—Walker’s Point—gives it away. The land for the compound was originally purchased in the early 20th century by George Herbert Walker (Bush 41’s grandfather and namesake) and his father; many decades later, George H. W. Bush bought it, though it had long served as a summer home for the extended Bush-Walker clan.

Depending on whether you count Missouri as Northern or Southern, either FDR or Truman was the last Democratic president to be Northern, white, and Protestant.  Mondale was the last Northern, white, Protestant male to be the Democratic presidential nominee.

This is about presidential nominees (so including candidates who never became President) but I find this set of facts to be fascinating, and ones that I just realized today. Several of the major landslide losers of the 20th century were the last of the major party presidential and vice-presidential nominees to die (I'm not counting third parties), with 1928, 1932, 1952, and 1956 being exceptions:

 1. Of the 1904 Democratic/Republican presidential tickets, Davis died in 1916, Fairbanks in 1918, T. Roosevelt in 1919, and Parker (the landslide loser) in 1926.

2. Of the 1920 Democratic/Republican presidential tickets, Harding died in 1923, Coolidge in 1933, F. Roosevelt in 1945, and Cox (the landslide loser) in 1957.

3. Of the 1936 Democratic/Republican presidential tickets, Knox died in 1944, F. Roosevelt in 1945, Garner in 1967, and Landon in 1987. Landon is the only major-party presidential nominee to have reached the age of 100 (not counting Strom Thurmond, who also reached 100).

4. Of the 1964 Democratic/Republican presidential tickets, Johnson died in 1973, Humphrey in 1978, Miller in 1983, and Goldwater (the landslide loser) in 1998.

5. Of the 1972 Democratic/Republican presidential tickets, Nixon died in 1994, Agnew in 1996, Shriver in 2011, and McGovern (the landslide loser) in 2012.

6. Of the 1984 Democratic/Republican presidential tickets, Reagan died in 2004, Ferraro in 2011, H.W. Bush in 2018, and Mondale (the landslide loser) this year.

Herbert Hoover and John Quincy Adams have both met twelve presidents. John Quincy Adams met fourteen, possibly fifteen.

Hoover met Ben Harrison and everyone from TR to Nixon. He may have met Ford (whose career was concurrent with Hoovers' life) and Reagan (who may have been at Hoover's final visit to the infamous Bohemian Groove), but we don't know.

John Quincy Adams met everyone from Washington to Andrew Johnson, except for Zachary Taylor. He may or may not have met Abraham Lincoln (both served in the House at the same time, but no record exists of them meeting.

This is not directly about presidents, but Zachary Taylor's secretary of the navy, William Preston, is said to have been shocked to learn that ships are hollow.

Norfolk County, Massachusetts, has given birth to more Presidents (Adams Sr., Adams Jr., Kennedy, Bush Sr.) than any other county in the United States.

Grant lived to be 63--the same age as his most notable opponent in the Civil War, Robert E. Lee.

- Both George H.W. Bush and Donald Trump were one-term Republican Presidents with Vice Presidents from Indiana
- The last elected Republican President whose home state when they were elected was not California, Texas, or New York was Calvin Coolidge
- Of the four Presidents who were assassinated, only two of their successors were nominated for the next presidential election (Theodore Roosevelt in 1904 and Lyndon Johnson in 1964)
- Father-son duo John Adams and John Quincy Adams were the only one-term Presidents until Martin Van Buren, and all of the other pre-Van Buren Presidents were Southern slaveowners
- Both of the elected Whig Party Presidents died in office
- Richard Nixon lost to the same Democratic Governor who was beaten by Ronald Reagan four years later
- John F. Kennedy was the only President born during WWI
- Joe Biden is the first Democratic President from the Northeast since Kennedy
- Dwight Eisenhower was the last General to serve as President
- George H. W. Bush was the last President to see active combat in the military
- Gerald Ford was born with a different name and Bill Clinton was born with a different surname
- Joe Biden is the first non-Ivy League alum to serve as President since Reagan
- Harry Truman was the last President to not be renominated by his party while actively seeking renomination (Lyndon Johnson obviously took himself out of the running)
- Dwight Eisenhower is the most recent US President to have not had a daughter

And both Roosevelt and Johnson won in landslides, whereas their assassinated predecessors had been elected in much narrower victories.

Only two presidents married women who were older than them: Millard Fillmore and Warren Harding.

The biggest age difference between a president and his wife was John Tyler and his second wife Julia, at 30 years. Grover and Francis Cleveland are in second, and Benjamin and second wife Mary Harrison are in third.

Tyler, Cleveland, and Harrison, along with Trump, are the only presidents to marry a woman more than 20 years younger than they were. What makes Cleveland stand out is that it was his first (and only) marriage, while it was the second for Tyler and Harrison and third for Trump.

Donald Trump is the only currently living president not to have descended from slave owners. Remember Obama's mother was white. Carter, Clinton, and Biden are all from former slave states, and Bush's family has a long history in America which includes slavery.

None of Trump's ancestors were in America until after slavery had been abolished.

Isn't Biden Irish? You don't become a slaveowner by moving into a former slave state.

True. I'm just saying that all of the living presidents except Trump had an American slave owner in their ancestry.

Wikipedia doesn't seem to indicate when Biden's ancestors arrived here. How do you know one was a slaveowner?
