Keith Ellison will likely be running for re-election and on one hand...

-He won by 4 in a very good year to be a Democrat against an evangelical nutcase

-He is controversial on account of being Keith Ellison

-Some of the COVID stuff might hurt him by a few points

-It's a midterm with a Democratic President

On the other hand...

-Said evangelical nutcase is running again and might be the nominee (and the evangelical stuff doesn't play so well in the Twin Cities, the regional centers, or on the Iron Range)

-He's done some good things around consumer protections that made the news

-Minnesota seems to like Democratic Attorney Generals

-The MN GOP is extremely incompetent when it comes to statewide races

Not mentioning the Floyd case because it could be a wild card. There's also the question of if the GOP fields a legal marijuana candidate to rat the DFL

Forgetting about the trial and riots, for reasons discussed in previous threads, the only thing that will keep this seat in Democratic hands is the continued drooling malfeasance of the so-called political organization that is the Minnesota Republican Party

To be fair, 6% went to liberal 3rd parties, and Wardlow is just your average republican

Let's not forget a major factor in Ellison's close call in 2018 was the domestic violence allegations since them, allegations that have essentially disappeared from public discourse and which are now generally thought to be unsubstantiated.

It probably begins as a strong Lean D race.

Lean D, not as safe as the governor's race (Likely/Safe D) but closer to that than Tossup.
