Wright loosing is a bad sign for republicans in the house/senate cause they’re “all in Trump” approach doesn’t looking too smart after this…

Granted it’s one election but that’s the only difference between the two candidates

What a terrible year she’s having. It’s sad. She probably hasn’t properly had time to mourn since he only died in February.

Wright is the second widow in recent times to lose a bid for her late husband's congressional seat. Maya Rockymoore-Cummings, Elijah Cummings' widow, was defeated in the primary last year by his predecessor, Kweisi Mfume.

The only thing of significance here really is that Trump's endorsed candidate lost.

The final vote tally was just over 39,000 votes or a little under half of the first round which already was the lowest turnout of the Congressional special elections this year.

Wouldn't read too much into the result; Trump endorsed house candidates lost primaries in 2020 in NC-11, VA-05, and CO-03, though in all 3 cases the candidate who won was more "Trumpy" than the candidate Trump endorsed.

Good analysis. No clear geographic favoritism, instead if Ellzey had some Dem support it was margial - which still can matter in tight races. Instead, he likely just had more campaign experience and a legislative profile when the legislature was in the news.

Sometimes I think he just endorses who he thinks is going to win. Even if they are a more establishment option that doesn't share his views.

And in many cases, Trump is clearly pleased by the result. Good in VA-05 was a speaker at his "Stop the Steal" rally, and Cawthorn also has been a staunch Trump supporter and was given a prominent speaking role at the RNC last year.

So.... haven't spent much time on the forum as of late.

Spin is basically that Trump's last minute endorsement in TX-06 didn't mean a hill of beans in this world (Sorry Casablanca rip-off)?

Also any tea leaves from this SE are likely suspect until we see results from other places such as NM-01 and in November VA-GOV?

Been out of the game for awhile but this caught my eye so chose to check in on Atlas for the first time in a bit...

Welcome back. That's broadly correct - except for the fact that the NM-01 election has already happened.

I would like to amusingly note again that Stansbury got more votes by herself in that election than all 23 candidates got in the first round of TX 06

My god, the turnout was abysmal. Texas Democrats are not the only ones with turnout problems, clearly it's a Texas issue at large.

Embarrassing for Trump though.

I mean, if I were a Democrat in that district, I simply wouldn't have voted. I refuse to vote for any Republican, even if those are the only two options.

Maybe if it was a Kinzinger type versus a Trump type, I'd vote for the former, given there's a clear upside to having that person in the House (versus another Republican - not versus a Dem obviously) but this was more like, Crenshaw versus Chip Roy - no material difference.

What you just posted was one of the most insanely idiotic threads I have ever read. At no point in the rambling, incoherent comments were they even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this thread is now dumber for having looked at it. I award the Freepers no points, and may god have mercy on their souls.

The 2017 Alabama Senate special election is another example.

Same. An acquaintance of mine from high school is actually running for council in my town this year...as a Republican. And I cannot bring myself to vote for him.

The comments complaining about Dems unfairly “crossover voting” when they shouldn’t have been allowed to vote at all are pretty insightful.

Or "Don's in disarray" to match the syllable count
