I held off on commenting on this proposal because the sponsor seemed to recognize the absurdity of it and indicated an intent to withdraw it, but it seems that is no longer the case. This proposal is simply unworkable. If we want to pass legislation to support transgender rights or to provide new services to transgender individuals, let's craft, debate, and pass legislation to that effect rather than try to comb through the wreckage of this proposal, trying to turn it into something meaningful when the entire backbone of the proposal is more or less unworkable and absurd. We all agree the legislation in its current form should not pass, and the objectionable components are so essential to it as written that it would be simply more appropriate to craft different legislation to pursue the aims articulated by the Chancellor than to try and modify this proposal.
