I don't really have a horse in this race but I'm not even sure if Dave has a particular preference either. From what he wrote on his website about the party colors, he kept them because by the time those colors became the default for the parties, he had made far too many map images to change them without a huge investment of time and effort.

Not impossible that he might switch himself if he had the means to easily do so.
