First ballot Hall of Famer. Between the mid to late 2000s he was the best offensive player in the game. I thought he would only play a couple of years in Anaheim, it's amazing to me he's lasted almost ten years there - and everyone will remember him as a Cardinal.

From other angles it looked like there was a very small gap between his foot and the plate.  But I don't think any of the views were definitive (either way), so it's back to the old "insufficient evidence to overturn the call on the field".

It's baseball. They've already paid him for the vast bulk of his contract which was frankly a lot for his pretty good but not great time spent as an Angel. He was batting .198.

That said he is one of the greatest players of my lifetime and he deserves all the accolades. No roids, either.

Could the days of the A's being based in Oakland be ending soon? The A's are considering relocation out of  the Bay Area, and that could impact the division alignment, depending on where they would end up.

They're only three games out of a Wild Card spot, they should pass the Mariners quickly, especially since the Mariners traded their closer, and I don't think Oakland's success is sustainable, so the Yankees should pass them for the second wild card spot.

That said, they probably needed to trade for Scherzer to have a chance at deep postseason run, and they didn't do that.

Oakland has made the playoffs 3-4 years in a row and they just got Marte. Their success is definitely sustainable and I don't think the Yankees will pass them.

I've been watching the Mets and Phillies all week to make sure when I go tomorrow it would be the game when the Phillies finally overtake the Mets.

The only thing better than the Red Sox and Mets losing miserably (like last season) is watching them get so much hope leading the division all year before the inevitable collapse.

Still think Toronto is the best in the AL East as I have all season, but Tampa is holding their ground. Could be Toronto and New York for the Wild Card game.

I don't think the Yankees are as good as the Athletics.

The Phillies are having all their best players get hot at the perfect time.

It's worth noting the Braves have a much tougher schedule than the Phillies do.

They host the Yankees, go to Los Angeles to play to play the Dodgers, have a split series with the Padres, where one of the games is at home and the other three are on the road, and play the Giants twice.

The Phillies get off lightly in comparison. They go to San Diego, then come home to play Tampa, have a three game series in Milwaukee in early September, then don't face another team with a record currently above .500 until the end of September series with Atlanta.

This is why I'm picking the Phillies to win the NL East at this point.

The Phillies definitely have an easier remaining schedule, but with the way the Braves are playing and a 3.5-game lead, I'd rather be the Braves at this point.

The nation's KKK members, long haul truckers who fly Confederate flags, and whites-only "in practice" frat members at SEC schools give a collective cheer at this amazing news.

Idk what's up with all these easterners in this thread who seem unjustifiably confident in their under-100 wild card meme teams.

I'm not confident (as a Cards fan).  Hope, sure.  We're playing with house money, it's one game.  If a hitter or two is hot (and many Cardinal bats are, you might have noticed) or if the pitcher is just on (ours is a vet that has been here many times), anything can happen in a one game playoff.
 Which is stupid for baseball, at least make it a best of three.
