Very disturbed to hear rumors they may keep the runner on second in extras or this preposterous expanded playoffs model. I may be a political progressive, but I am thoroughly reactionary when it comes to baseball.

The extra inning runner is an abomination of its own horrific category.

Expanded playoffs and the universal DH are awful as well, of course.

The extra inning runner is really an atrocity. Expanded Playoffs are awful, as is the Universal DH (though less so than the previous two), even if the Universal DH would be great for the Mets.

https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/mlb-mlbpa-agree-to-2021-protocols-including-seven-inning-doubleheaders-and-runner-on-second-in-extras/

Today is a dark day for America's pastime. They are keeping the 7 Inning Double Headers and the runner on second. Absolute calamity. We should all beg God to forgive us for allowing this to happen. Rob Manfred is a disgrace.

Imagine how mad "purists" must have been when foul balls started counting as strikes in 1901 (NL) or 1903 (AL). Or when spitballs were banned in 1920. Or when the mound was lowered in 1968 to induce more offense. Or when the material on the ball no longer had to be horse hide in 1975. Etc., etc., and don't get me started on the 19th century.

Point being, baseball rules have evolved continuously. Purism is a mirage.

Did you just compare foul balls to having a ghost runner in a Major League game?

Cause, if so. No.

Oh and what's that? It's Jacob deGrom sharpening what appears to be a large knife, and he's going for Trevor May's throat!

some time later in court....

Jacob deGrom's attorney (me): “Your honor, he threw six scoreless innings and provided HALF of his OWN run support!”

Dom Smith could end up being better than Alonso. I love them both, of course.

Gerrit Cole had 13 K's last night. Big Winner for whoever has him in fanasty.

That would be our former poster NYE who happens to be matched up against me and is winning handily mostly thanks to Cole.

I am somehow winning against someone from New Hampshire without paying any attention

The Mets just won a very....unique game. The call on Conforto's "hit by pitch" was the wrong call, but you can't convince me the Mets were going to lose. The Magic was with us ever since Jeff hit that ball skyward.

Jacob deGrom goes out there and dominates for 8 innings. He's still throwing triple digits by the end of the game, and he's completely untouchable (well, except for one fastball). And the Mets can't give him a single run. Disgraceful. And it's not as if we don't have offense. Nimmo-Lindor-Conforto-Alonso-Smith-McNeil is honestly one of the best line of hitters in the entire MLB, if not the best (I'd say it is).

But when the reincarnation of Seaver (PBUH) himself is pitching, nothing.

Phillies deserve the win and Phillies would have won in Extra innings, anyways, but the system is still broken after sports spend all their money on instant replay, the runner didn't tag the base

The system just exposed the umpire system at home, calling balls and strikes

Home plate umpires cheat, because the home plate umpires called the runner safe

Thank you OC I completely agree

What is the deal with people not understanding how to put together a decent trade?
In my money league a guy offered me 3 mediocre position players for Trevor Bauer, Not only would I lose arguably the best pitcher in Baseball atm, I would have to drop 2 other players to make room for the other mediocrities.

That trade is garbage though.

deGrom just pitched on the greatest gems of his career, right after he pitched one of the greatest gems of his career last week.

He's better than prime Kershaw, he's better than prime Scherzer, he's better than prime Verlander, and you can't convince me otherwise!

Goodbye Jay Bruce, a real professional. I always liked him ever since he gained my respect when I saw him homer at Citi Field (as a Red) and later I saw him single there (as a Met). But these days, 25-30 homers and a .200 batting average is common and often not worth holding open a roster spot for. His contact severely declined with age, and his home runs aren't enough anymore.

Goodbye FF.

Good God.......

I just witnessed one of the greatest Mets pitching performances in history. The best Mets game I've ever seen. Incredible. Just incredible. He is the best pitcher in baseball and it's not close. He is better than peak Kershaw, peak Verlander, and peak Scherzer. He is Jacob deGrom.

The Mets tried very hard to lose, but still won. Alonso, Nimmo, McNeil, J.D. Davis, and deGrom are the only parts of this team working.

I wouldn't be shocked if DeGrom demands a trade sometime soon.

He's a team player, and he's spoken repeatedly of possibly being a Met for life. He ain't getting traded.

Typical Angels, two of the best and most exciting players in the game and they're in fourth place.

Oh, and that Hoskins no-HR call was poop.

Blame the Phillies for bad ground rules, by the rules of the field that was not a home run. The video review was clear.

The McCutchen call was actually bad though. I'm not sure how any sane person would say he was out of the baseline.
