I would say disappointing numbers for Sheffield, but Walker had half the votes on his 7th ballot. He could benefit from Schilling, Clemens, Bonds and Sosa coming off the ballot in two years. Of course A-Rod and Papi will start a whole new decade of controversy, but at least they are not outfielders.

If Clemens and Bonds don't make it next year, then surely there isn't going to be any real controversy here? Would be preposterous for A-Rod to make it but not Bonds.

The extra inning runner is an abomination of its own horrific category.

Expanded playoffs and the universal DH are awful as well, of course.

Mariners come back from a 6-1 deficit in the bottom of the 8th to win 8-7 in the 10th inning on a walk-off walk? This is going to be a good* year, I can feel it.

*By good, I mean we might finish above .500 for the year.

pain.

I mean we knew our bullpen was complete horses**t but didn't think it would be this much complete horsesh**t. 7 recorded outs against 7 walks and an HPB, jfc.

Could the days of the A's being based in Oakland be ending soon? The A's are considering relocation out of  the Bay Area, and that could impact the division alignment, depending on where they would end up.

MLB.com:
Quote
Concerned about a lack of progress in their efforts to privately finance a new state-of-the-art ballpark in downtown Oakland, the A’s have begun actively pursuing relocation.

The decision comes after Major League Baseball issued a statement on Monday instructing the A’s to explore other markets as they continue to pursue their proposed waterfront ballpark near Howard Terminal in Oakland.

"MLB is concerned with the rate of progress on the A's new ballpark effort with local officials and other stakeholders in Oakland," the league’s statement said. "The A's have worked very hard to advance a new ballpark in downtown Oakland for the last four years, investing significant resources while facing multiple roadblocks. We know they remain deeply committed to succeeding in Oakland, and with two other sports franchises recently leaving the community, their commitment to Oakland is now more important than ever.”

They should move to Portland!

The New York Metro area can totally support a third team. Bring back the Brooklyn Dodgers!

Dumb, why would the Athletics become a team they never were? They should move back to Philadelphia.

Does Philly really need two MLB teams? Come to think of it, does any city?

Certainly less preposterous than the notion of Brooklyn being represented by an American League team.

Mike Tauchman, batting .183, has singlehandedly flipped three games from the loss to the win column for the Giants in a span of two weeks.

I love baseball.

Acuna ended up scoring the only run of the game after that HBP, meaning that after throwing only the first pitch of the game, Lopez took the loss.

Manfred has been making some noises over the last few days that the seven inning doubleheaders and the Manfredball extras might not be returning next year. That being said he also sounded very flaky and said a lot of stuff like “oh it’s not a priority but MLBPA might push for it” etc. Might be less of a sincere commitment and more an attempt to use it as a lightning rod to direct fan dissatisfaction to the MLBPA instead of him. Still, somewhat promising.

Wasn’t my favorite of the options but hey, it’s okay. On the bright side, they only have to change the right halves of the jersey now.

Lmao at Cubs fans who thought for a moment they were getting Bart and LWJ.

Mercifully I didn’t see it until it had already been debunked; would’ve panicked.

Does Madison Bumgarner eventually make the HOF? That will be the only way for him to get a retired number.

The Giants have announced that they will retire Will (and Jack) Clark's number, so even if this was ever a requirement it is not a requirement now.

The rule was relaxed for Bonds’ 25 first, and now for Clark’s 22. I can see it happening for Bumgarner’s 40 or Lincecum’s 55 [the latter of which the team has been careful to never reissue all these years]. Would have happened to Posey’s 28 but his resurgence this year probably makes him more likely than not to make the Hall anyway.

Logan Webb now has given up 2 or fewer runs in each of his last 11 starts, with a 1.64 ERA over that time (Giants have gone 10-1 with a loss in extras over that time). At least 6 IP in each of the last 5 starts (was recovering from injury before then). At this point I’d take him on the mound against anyone.

Giants continue to lose to mediocre teams; really don't see the division lead holding playing like this. Need to get out of this funk fast.

At this point Giants will be lucky to win 90 games. Just a complete implosion the past ~3 weeks.

Literally one of the worst teams I have ever seen. Will go into the Dodgers series behind by a game, leave it down by 4, and then watch as the wild card fades to San Diego and Cincy as well. Absolutely shameful.

Even with him being removed after 8, I feel like Burnes has to be the Cy Young favorite now? Ofc MLB/baseball journalists love the Dodgers and are constantly throwing awards at them so it may not happen, but as of this moment I feel he easily deserves it the most.

Can we investigate the Padres for throwing games? That literally looked like batting practice there.
