Ok so we all know John Kerry wants to run for President again in 2008. Since being a Senator was such a big obstacle (especially for him) why doesn't he just run for Governor in 2006?

He was a lieutenant governor under Dukakis, wasn't he? Sure, why not?

He won't do that. His brother is running for Secretary of State (or the Commonwealth), and with two Kerrys in the top three offices, people would be quick to call it a dynasty.

And John Kerry says he will do for Massachusetts what he has done for Massachusetts.

the poor man would be very tired and have an empty war chest by early 08

You act as if people would forget his Senate record if he ran for Governor

He wouldn't be criticized in '08 for missing so many votes.

I really don't think Kerry has any interest in running for governor (or Massachusetts state government in general).

He's a Washington guy.

Probably figures there isn't enough to gain by trying to do that. Plus, there are stockpiles of establishment northeastern liberals in MA, so he probably figures let someone else do it. I agree that he's a Washington guy as well. More circles to get in and more action going on in DC.

Just as Nixon ran for Governor of California in 1962, Kerry's attempt to win the governorship be seen purely as an attempt to win the nomination.  No one, absolutely no one, would be fooled.

lol

Actually I would prefer not because I would most definitly like a Governor Romney as the Republican Presidential candidate in 2008, Bayh would cream him.

Romney hasn't said if he is going to run for re-election.

Romney is such an awful candidate I'd like for him to be the nominee, but he has no chance of winning the primary. Since he's such a prick I'd love to see him lose instead, likely to the AG (can't remember his name). Anyone who's even remotely better than Shannon O'Brien should be able to take him out fairly easily.

I don't think he will run for Govenor, but your $$ logic is flawed.

1.  He is a popular figure in the state as is

2.  Romney is quite unpopular & if he decided to run for re-election  a sock puppet could beat him at this point

3.  If Romney doesn't run who else does the GOP have??

If he were to run Kerry would not have to worry about draining his $$ for 08 because he could sleepwalk & win the Governor's race

romney is actually pretty popular in mass (considering his conservatism)

who else do the republicans have?  i suspect lt. governor kerry healey will run for the republican nomination.  she isnt a particularly strong candidate, however.  although she is much more liberal than romney and blasted him for his morning after pill stance.

Why would Kerry run for governor if he plans on running in '08?  What would he do in '08, talk about his accomplishments as governor?  He'll have no accomplishments!  When the campaign moves into full swing, he will only have been governor for about a year.  You can't accomplish much in less than two years as governor.

My advice to John Kerry would be just to remain a senator from Massachusetts because, unless there's some political earthquake on the horizon, he has that seat for as long as he wants and forget about any presidential further presidential or gubnatorial race. He's yesterday's guy!

As a former Mass resident until '02, there was some talk about Kerry running in '02 against Jane Swift and balked after hearing Romney was going to run instead of Swift. I can't see Kerry running for governor. It would make him look desperate. I think Romney would crush him by 10 or 12 points.

If it was '02 and it was Kerry against Swift, Kerry would have won by 20 points and he might have beaten Romney by a hair as well.

Oddly enough in Kerry vs. Romney both candidates would have large hairstyles.
