Texas Governor Ann Richards runs for and wins the Democratic nomination for President.

She faces the incumbent President, George H.W Bush, and Independent candidate Ross Perot in November.

Who wins? What does the map look like? Does Perot win any states?

She would have been creamed.  She was in her 2nd year as Texas Governor, she had a widely publicized drinking problem (which she overcame, but this IS the Presidency we're talking about) and she won in something a fluke.  She was behind for most of the campaign until the GOP frontrunner until Williams made a bad rape joke that did him in.

People could say that would have been the sexism of the time.  Bill Clinton, however, was a 10 year Governor of Arkansas.  That was far more experience than Richards would have had in facing a President who, for all his weakness, had a pretty impressive resume, and whose 1988 slogan (which was a credible slogan) was "Ready on Day One".
