It’s often speculated that the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh and subsequent Senate hearings cost the Democrats their chance of winning the Senate in 2018, as it’s believed the Democratic response in the Senate to allegations of Kavanaugh’s misconduct in his youth harmed them with swing voters in key states.

So, supposing that Kavanaugh was not nominated at all — let’s say either Kennedy doesn’t retire or Trump chooses someone else like Barrett instead — would the Democrats have had a chance at taking back the Senate, or at least avoiding losses? Could Nelson at least have held on? What about McCaskill and Donnelly? Could Beto or even Bredesen have had a chance?

Realistically, this is the only change.  Could be pretty impactful this year of course.
