I am a left winger on both social and policy issues. I do put economic liberalism far ahead of social liberalism on my priority list.  Universal healthcare, climate change and raising the minimum wage are much more important then social issues.

I would easily be a communitarian if forced to choose.

I would choose Casey over Paul specifically but in general I think I sympathize with the “libertarian” philosophy a bit more than the “communitarian” one. Not sure these are the best examples of each, especially considering Ron Paul is not particularly socially liberal anyway — he is also opposed to abortion, for one thing.

The vast majority of people are incapable of handling the immense burden of freedom. They want to leech off of others while simultaneously dictating how they live their personal lives.

I’d vote for Casey over Paul. Can’t say I’m a huge fan of either ideology at its core but I’d trust the communitarian with not dismantling the welfare state and hope they don’t get too involved in pushing social control. Can’t say the same for the libertarian.

There's plenty to hate about the "pure" forms of both quadrants (i.e. Stalin vs. Murray Rothbard, basically), but Casey is a pretty good representative of the top left quadrant whereas Paul is a literally meme-tier representative of the bottom right. That plus the fact that I'm two PM points away from being authleft but seven or eight away from being libright makes this an easy Casey vote.

Better matchup might be the already-done JBE vs. Charlie Baker. This is ridiculous.

I already am in the communitarian quadrant so duh.

Well, technically I straddle the line x-axis while being solidly to the economic left, but you get the idea. Actually today I retook the PM test and I managed to get a perfect 0.00 as my S score somehow.

Also:

In the abstract, the bottom right quadrant reflects my values more closely than the top left. Of course, this poll is cursed and Casey is the only reasonable answer.

I am not an ideological enough person (as far as ideologies like this, any way) to like either, but Libertarianism is better than Communitarianism.

I laugh at this because you just stated why libertarianism won't work with the greater populace. It only works with a "Galt's Gulch" scenario.

Ron Paul would be one of the best people with his PM score for me, but I'll still take Casey Sr on the basis of agreeing more on most things, being pretty close to the 2nd quadrant myself.

Voted Paul as a result of the headline of this thread, but I am actually uncertain as to how I might vote between these men in real life (maybe third-party); Paul is sufficiently ideological that I do not think he'd make a good President (and I didn't support him in 2008/2012), while Casey was pragmatic and did not have a great relationship with the national Democratic Party.

I would very, very easily vote for Rand Paul against Bob Casey, Jr., though. The former is among the best incumbent Republican Senators, while the latter is an undistinguished Democrat.

In terms of how I interpret the Constitution, I am sure that it allows Communitarianism.
In terms of how I would prefer to vote on the issues, I lean towards Libertarianism.

For example, I am certain that Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey should be overturned. Those decisions clearly misinterpreted the U.S. Constitution, the Due Process Clause in particular. But if and when those decisions are overturned, then I would support my state having liberal abortion policies, allowing abortion in most circumstances. Also, I am certain that Obergefell v. Hodges was wrongly decided. But have been hoping, all along, that every state would choose to legalize SSM on their own, without any court requiring them to do so. In terms of economic policy, I am opposed to minimum wage laws of any kind, much less seeing the minimum wage law increased every so often. But there were four occasions in the early 20th Century when the Supreme Court struck down minimum wage laws, claiming that said laws violate a constitutionally-guaranteed right of employers to hire employees who would willingly work for sub-minimum wages; all of those decisions were also incorrect interpretations of the Constitution.

So if I were to apply my judicial philosophy, I would vote for Casey, but if I were to apply my political goals, I would vote for Paul.

Yeah, the only issue Casey is socially conservative on that I know of is abortion.

Well, yes; he was given a lot more opportunity to. What tankies say of "true" communism actually is true of "true" libertarianism* in that it's a largely untested ideology.

*not that Murray "police brutality is Good, Actually" Rothbard was really all that libertarian, but he certainly was in the bottom right quadrant!
