The omnipresence of politics. Remember in 2015 when people didn't think and talk about the president every day?

Other Democrats saying I was being “too cynical” whenever I said that racism, misogyny, etc were the driving forces animating Trump’s base as opposed to “economic anxiety.”

Three things annoyed the crap out of me:
1) The sheer annoying amount of GOP politicians who did everything possible to get his love and support.
2) The emboldened radical right....and most of all....
3) How anything his supporters didn’t like was “fake news” and “biased.”

The dumb slogans

"Tired of winning" and such

And his dumb one word nicknames. Lyin ted cruz, crooked hillary...

The ONLY good one was sleepy Joe Biden.

The constant struggle of dealing with politics that was based on lies.  You couldn't reason with people because they just believed a bunch of lies and refused to see the truth even when it was right in front of their face, like the damn Patrick/Wallet meme.  And those lies led them to hate the Democratic Party, to hate our politicians, to hate me.  All based on lies.  They hated me because they thought I wanted things that I don't actually want!  At least during the Bush era people hated me for being pro-choice or otherwise reality-based aspects of my ideology.  In the Trump era, people on the right would hate me because I supported pedophiles, and people on the left hated me because I wanted all the poor people to die.

Oh yeah, I'm talking about the left as well here.  Because the "Trump era" was, and is, the domination of manipulated misinformation-fueled social media in our political discourse, and Trump (and his Twitter) were emblematic of that.

Also, I miss when conspiracy theories were fun.  Like the government is hiding UFOs from us, or so-and-so secretly controls the world.  And they were harmless, other than kooks like the John Birch Society.

Nowadays, conspiracy theories are the foundation of our politics and you have to work around them.  Half of the country believes that Bill Gates created COVID, and you can't talk them out of it, you have to reason with them around that big lie.  And new ones get churned out in an incredibly predictable way.  As soon as I saw the issues with the Iowa caucuses I knew exactly what the conspiracy theory would be -- whichever candidate won would be accused of causing the delay to manipulate the results in their favor -- and sure enough, now everyone hates Pete Buttigieg and associates him with "SHADOW" and the CIA.  It's just obnoxious and horrible and people are so f---ing stupid.

The insistence from both supporters and opponents that unless one reorients all one's values and beliefs in response to him, you are disloyal to America.

CNN's worshipping of Trump's worst of the worst supporters, and in doing so, completely normalizing violent radical behavior.
The fact that opinions were treated like cold hard fact (the "alternative facts" thing) while undeniable reality was treated like an opinion that people are entitled to having ('covid doesn't exist', 'sea level rise isn't happening', the election conspiracy theories, to name a few)
"Trigger the libs" being the sole basis of any policy that was implemented
And of course, the blatant racism.

The omnipresence of politics. Remember in 2015 when people didn't think and talk about the president every day?

I don't remember this ever being the case.

Tariffs of course.

World peace comes from the almighty dollar, Trump did more to harm that than any president in our lifetime.

Annoyed? The craven and cynical way he got Republicans to suddenly stop being anti-Russia, when that had been the only consistent position conservatism maintained for the last 40 years. Way to sell out that lone remaining principle, dipsh!ts Roll Eyes

Everyone trying acting morally superior to "others". People on both sides did it, and it was very messed up IMO.

In addition to much of what as already said in this thread: feeling anxious and like I was going insane all the f***ing time in so many ways. From feeling alienated from other Americans who don't care about facts and reality to constantly being overwhelmed by the horror of a corrupt, unqualified human punchline being the most powerful man in the world at the time.

The both sides-ism that you and a few others have demonstrated is added to the list.

Other than COVID-19, seeing the way my fellow rural Americans have changed. Lots of very intelligent and nice people have been completely sucked in by conspiracy theories and cult tactics.

Runner up: Seeing the GOP turn from the party of limited government and “leave me alone” (or at least pretending to be that) to a cult.

The childish attitude, mostly. Prime example being: “When I win, it’s fair. When I lose, it’s rIgGeD!”
