Yeah, I'm worried that people will rehabilitate Trump the way they did GW Bush. He stripped 2 million people of their health insurance before the pandemic, redistributed wealth upwards with his tax law, and generally just sucked at managed literally everything else.

Promises Made, Promises Kept

Americans were very angry at the direction the country was going in 2016. You can't have Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump (and Ted Cruz even) as serious presidential contenders and have the country not be angry. In the end Trump won, flawed as he was, because too many people hated and mistrusted simply the worst candidate the Democrats could put forward. A lot of people were against Trump from the get-go, both conservative and liberal. Some people thought what he said would be tempered down when he took office. This never occurred. Throw in his personal vanity (not unique among politicians to be fair), he never had a desire to learn how government works, improve how government works if he disagreed with it, or listen to counsel that was not a yes man, and you have what has occurred the last 4 years. The Ukraine deal that led to his 1st impeachment is just in my opinion him doing how he did business in New York as how he would do business as president, which demonstrates he never accepted that the two positions function differently. He had a never accept defeat ever mentality, which is great for being a New York businessman but also created the last 2 months. If he had done a better job with Covid I think he would've been reelected, all other problems aside, but by that point he'd surrounded himself with too many yes men and relied on his own opinions instead of that of medical counsel. He's hardly the only politician to mishandle Covid, but for right or wrong people think the president of this country should be a monarch that rules by dictate. So if he's not dictating correctly, it harms the country.
