That's less than a half dozen; it is not a full list.

Twenty-twenty-twenty-four hours to goooo, I want to be sedated!

$1000 on a pardon for Steve Bannon.

Apparently Trump contacted Steve Bannon recently to get help in overturning the election results. If that's the true nature of their interaction then I'm guessing Trump won't give him one since Bannon obviously didn't help out at all.

You were saying?

On the positive side, quite a few nonviolent drug offenders were pardoned.

Bannon, Lil Wayne, and Kodak Black are the only ones I recognized.

Sholam Weiss, who was given the longest white-collar criminal sentence in U.S. history (835 years), has been commuted to time served after 19 years in prison, as has Kwame Kilpatrick, the former Mayor of Detroit sentenced to 28 years in federal prison for corruption back in 2013.

Aside from Bannon, seems he largely avoided the most controversial pardons he could have made.

Which would have been himself, his family, Giuliani, even Assange and Snowden.

Really starting to wonder if Mitch and company told him that if he did that, he would be convicted.

People are speculating that the Bannon pardon might give Mitch cover to vote for conviction, since Bannon tried to primary a good portion of his caucus for being "RINOs". He was even the one who supported Roy Moore, of all people.

Kwame Kilpatrick's corruption sentence commuted.

I will never understand why he waited until after the election to do this. Kilpatrick is still very popular in Detroit and this would've gotten him a lot of goodwill, perhaps even enough to make it very close if not win the state.

Honestly, a constitutional amendment should be passed to strip the President of his/her pardon powers. It is a bizarre, monarch-style power which has the potential to cause a lot more harm than good. Or at the very least, pardons should have to be approved by a commission of legal experts.
That sort of defeats the point of a pardon, no? The President has the power to pardon as part of the system of checks and balances — to allow for clemency and ensure that courts do not have sole authority over criminal sentencing. If legal experts can override that privilege, then there is nothing to check the power of the courts. The pardon power can allow the legitimately guilty to escape their sentences, but it can also allow the wrongfully convicted another opportunity for reprieve, and Blackstone's formulation tells us which one to prefer.

The Constitutional remedy for abuse of the pardon power, incidentally, is impeachment. (Ex parte Grossman, 1925).
A far better idea would be to also grant pardon powers to a panel of retired SCOTUS members, functioning outside of the lobbying system.

Well that would be the opposite of my speculation pretty much, but I hope it's right.

Trump also pardoned former NC GOP chair and Congressman Robin Hayes.

In normal times I feel like the Kodak Black pardon would be one of the more controversial ones. The guy's still facing state charges for raping a high schooler. But I guess it's not the 1990s anymore, Republicans don't care about this sort of thing.

Donald Trump only cares about Mexican rapists.

Assange and Snowden will never be pardoned. Which will annoy the small but over represented core who are obsessed with pardoning them.

I guess count me in the smaller and under represented core who wants Snowden pardoned but not Assange

Trump pardoned the grifter who scammed his supporters to pay to “build the wall,” and it appears he isn’t pardoning his actual supporters who followed his lead into the Capitol. No Jenna Ryan.

S.O.P. for Presidents on their way out of the door.

Come off at Grumps. You know the scope and self-serving nature of Trump's pardon is going to dwarf historical precedent. Even Clinton's out the door pardons, which were one of the blackest marks on his administration, is going to pale in comparison. I defy you to compare the wholesale Donnie's pardon shop being open up for cash compared to Obama's far more high-minded attempts at mitigating and commuting sentences he felt were wrong.

I know you're a trumpist, but you're better than this to just go to fuzzy bear levels of denying reality.

I'll reply when the pardon/commutation list is announced.

So, Badg, are your undies in a twist with the list?

If Trump really wanted to troll people he would pardon Kwame Kilpatrick and make him a MAGA surrogate for black votes.

Accolades status: collected.
