How did the much talked about 2016 Obama-Trump voters vote in the 2020 election? Did they stay with Trump or did they go back to Obama's running mate?

I think most of them stuck with Trump. The most extreme example of this is Elliot county Kentucky, but even others like Luzerne county Pennsylvania still stayed generally Republican.

According to Ballotpedia, there were 181 Obama-Obama-Trump-Trump counties but only 25 Obama-Obama-Trump-Biden counties. So it stands to reason that most Obama-Trump voters stuck with Trump in 2020.

My mom voted for Obama twice and Trump twice.

They largely stayed with Trump, just as Romney-Clinton voters went overwhelmingly for Biden.

It's hard to be sure. My hunch is that a good number returned to the Democratic fold, but their broader influence was outdone by new voters coming out for Trump.

I'd say it's 50/50, but new voters Trump brought into the fold and enough 3rd party 2016 voters breaking for Biden kind of drowned out their influence.

I think that quite a few returned to Biden. In some counties (Lackawanna for instance) he received virtually the same number of raw votes as Obama in 2012 and the only reason the margin was narrower was because Republican turnout was higher. Obviously it can't be proven that those were all the same voters but probably at least a significant number were.
