My grandfather (became a Democrat as a result of Gingrich’s tactics and entitlement warfare).

Did he actually become more left-leaning, or did he remain a right winger who just disapproved of the GOP?
Thanks to his retirement in 1996, he went from being right-wing to being apathetic about taxes and labor, and he went from being apathetic about entitlements to being against entitlement cuts.

Dr. David A. Kessler, I think. He was an aide to Orrin Hatch, FDA Commissioner under Bush 41 and Clinton, he clashed with Republicans during Clinton’s Presidency, and now he’s helping Biden with COVID.
