I have no problem with this type of thread unless if they are clearly trolling for instance asking if "is Joe Arpaio attractive?" or " if "is Robert E Lee is attractive?"

if there politicians that might be genuinely or arguably good looking, then I see no issue asking this question

I agree the threads have long outstayed their welcome (though I don't think it is necessary for the mods to forcibly put a stop to them in the off-topic board), but I don't get this part.

For one thing, seems about as many of the threads were about men as women.

For another thing, I find the entire concept of "the male gaze" to be questionable. It seems increasingly like any time a man says he finds a woman attractive, he's treated as some kind of sexist, objectifying pig. It doesn't make any sense and it's getting dangerously close to downright stigmatizing perfectly natural male heterosexuality. Yet the reverse is never done; no one ever claims women who talk about how George Clooney is hot or whatever are "objectifying" him from the "female gaze," etc.
