Quote
Philippine leader Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday declared the presidency was no job for a woman because of their emotional differences to men, and dismissed speculation his daughter would succeed him next year.

"My daughter is not running. I have told Inday not to run because I pity (her) knowing she will have to go through what I am going through," Duterte said at the launch of a highway project, referring to his daughter Sara by her nickname.

"This is not for women. You know, the emotional setup of a woman and a man is totally different. You will become a fool here. So... that is the sad story."

The Philippines has had two female presidents, Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and Corazon Aquino.

She is most likely going to be the next female president of the Philippines.

I'm not expressing my true thoughts on Duterte and his remarks because it would violate TOS.

This might be interesting if a Western politician said it, but in most of the world the majority do believe some variant of this, for better or worse.

Well, a plurality of the voters in 2004 did not believe this.

Well yes, that is why they need more counterexamples to prove them wrong.

Except that women are actually being elected to leadership positions across the world.

If you expect consistency from regular people, you don't get regular people.  Many many people who voted for Maggie Thatcher probably believed something like this for example.

Let's be real here, many non-western countries, including countries as conservative like Pakistan, the Central African Republic, Bangladesh or Indonesia have had female heads of state or of government.

The Phillpines themselves have already had 2 women as leaders, including the first democratically elected president after the dictatorship of Ferdinand Marcos! (Corazón Aquino)

The first woman to become elected head of government was in Sri Lanka of all places and of course the 2nd woman to do so (Indira Gandhi) was quite a big political figure in her country of India.

On this note, the Indian subcontinent seems fairly progressive on womens rights for some reason; at least in this very narrowly defined area. Bangladesh, Pakistan, India and Sri Lanka seem to have had no issues electing several women into power.

Exactly. Latin America has had several female Presidents. Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Costa Rica, and Nicaragua are countries that have had female leaders.
