Nope. I'd love to see liberal municipalities refuse to do so for their flags on government property.

No, they should be raised all the way and accompanied with fireworks.

No, the masts should be doubled and the flags raised to 2x height, and the day declared a federal holiday.

In all seriousness, you do that scratching I thought about this and the precedent it sets. There actually is some to a degree. I know John Tyler, who fought as a general for the Confederacy after leaving the White House, was the only ex president whose death was not accompanied by an official statement from the White House. I can only assume that flags were not lowered to half-staff.

Based on that president of a president flash /traitor, I believe it would be perfectly in line with president what to do so.

If he is convicted by the Senate then no.

Otherwise, maybe lower the flag 1/4 of the way. Trump evidently did get some things accomplished that some people liked, so perhaps we should give him a little bit of credit.

Republicans who voted against impeachment said they did it because it's time to move on. Moving on means not giving him any honors or acknowledgements either.

I mean, all the GOP state capitols will lower their flags regardless.

I'm more interested in who would attend the funeral. Do former presidents turn up, or boycott?

Do congressional leaders (both current, and those in power during the Trump era) attend?

The Nixon funeral was attended by pretty much every living President, and a large number of dignitaries (from PMs Toshiki Kaifu and Ted Heath to Billy Graham). Nixon had significantly more success in his presidency, but it's the closest parallel I can think of.

No

Beyond completing impeachment and whatever criminal charges he and his helper may face, we should just treat his presidency as though it didn’t happen in official business.

Oh some real estate jackass died? Don’t see why that would merit comment from the federal government.

Thank you.

Half staff: on land.

Half mast: at sea.

People forget how much Nixon's image was rehabilitated after he left office. He really milked the "elder statesman" thing and ended up on "most admired men in the world" polls and had decent favorability ratings with the US public.

Good point. I always think of Nixon as Eisenhower's ambitious VP, or as the embattled President in 1974. I always overlook the time he spent through the 80s and 90s as a less controversial figure.

I wonder whether Trump's actions will provoke a more positive or negative review of Nixon's term. On one hand, Nixon seems tame compared to Trump, but on the other, the norms that broke down during Watergate provided both cover for Trump, and helped birth the distrustful, anti-establishment political environment that Trump would weaponise forty years later.
