Doubt it. I think his lack of experience and race-related baggage would have sunk him. I really think Biden was the only candidate who could have won.

For all the (highly justified) complaints about Biden's winning coalition being too white and bougie and allowing core demographics to slip, a Pete timeline performance would make the Biden 2020 support base look like LBJ's by comparison.

Probably not. I don’t subscribe to the notion that “Biden was 100% the only candidate that could have beaten Trump” but Pete was definitely one of the weaker candidates.

Him, along with Bloomberg, are the two that I'm absolutely convinced would've lost.

I think he would have, it was mostly a vote against Trump and Trump is very polarizing where most either love him or hate him.  Now yes if you had Bernie Sanders, I think Trump would have won, but Trump would have no gotten anymore votes, just third party support would have been much higher.  Of those who voted for Biden, very few would consider Trump no matter who was candidate.  Now some might have gone for third parties, but I think it was going to be super close no matter what and Democrats needed someone who was moderate and not too scary.  Buttigieg like Biden fits this, Sanders doesn't.

It is unlikely Buttigieg would have beaten the Traitor Tot.  The keys to Biden's win were a strong suburban showing and big black turnout.  Buttigieg's weak standing with nonwhite voters in general and black voters specifically was well documented.  Can you imagine Buttigieg stumbling his way through the George Floyd protests? *shudders* That would have been his undoing in the general election.

Also, there would have been a lot of hand-wringing about running someone so untested during a historic crisis.  That might have scared off some voters as well.

My gut tells me no because I don't think he'd win Georgia or Pennsylvania.

Biden/Harris was the perfect ticket (as many people thought).

I think Buttigieg would have probably won Michigan (by a smaller margin) but the other Biden states were far from guaranteed.  I think the next most likely would have actually been Arizona.  He probably would have held all of the Hillary/Biden states though, with the only possible exception being Nevada.

No, and a Bernie candidacy would have been best in hindsight.

It really wouldn't have been. Trump and the RNC war machine would have had a field day with him.

Depends but I lean no. It would be close as he would win the NPV but would fall short with the Electoral college; I don't think Pete's ready for the Presidency.

I don't really see how it would've been any different than with Biden, considering that they went full-on Red Scare mode regardless. We're at a "the boy who cried wolf" point when it comes to the GOP yelling about socialism/communism.

I am now beginning to think he would have been a better running mate, we lost IA and OH due to Harris and Buttigieg did very well in IA. He would have helped Biden more as a Veep than Harris

He should of been Veep, Harris couldn't help Biden like Buttigieg did in IA and OH which she lost Iowa in Primary, Buttigieg win Iowa

Only Floridians and partisans believed it, the attacks on Biden fell flat and his favorability rose through the general election. The attacks against the far-left would have been infinitely more credible and effective against Bernie, and given how close the election was Trump would have been seen as the lesser evil by enough voters to win (and maybe some suburban voters who hated Trump go third party as it's too much of a leap to have Bernie be the Democrat they break their partisanship for).

I'm not of the belief that Biden was the only person who could beat Trump, there were plenty of Democrats who didn't run who could have. That said, of all those who ran for the Democratic nomination and had a chance of winning it, Bernie was the only won with a shot (50/50) at beating Trump. The rest would've lost and the only candidate of them that would've done worse than Buttigieg was Bloomberg.

Trump would've won the popular vote by 700K.

He would've won NV, WI, and maybe MI.

Pete Buttigieg was possibly the weakest possible candidate who could have been run against Trump. Trump could have died of Covid in October and still easily beaten that clown
