Surprising no one. I don't understand how McCarthy became the House GOP leader. He comes across as very weak and it shows when he lets a freshman rep railroad him.

Tbh, the House GOP is probably un-leadable. It's filled to the brim with absolute lunatics.

This is so true. I remember watching an interview with John Boehner after he left Congress and he looked really relaxed and according to all reports it was his own party members that gave him fits.

He's known to be a very friendly and personally charming guy who likes pleasing people and will go to any length to do so. Now that I think about it, almost like Michael Scott.

That seems like the opposite of who you'd want as a party leader.

I think luck also played a part. He was one of the few Republican freshmen to get elected in 2006 and had the backing of his highly influential predecessor, outgoing Ways and Means Chairman Bill Thomas. So he probably stood out to leadership from his first day in office.

From there, his backslapping personality probably won him a lot of friends within the caucus, and he recruited and campaigned for a lot of the 2010 freshmen. So he got elected Whip when Republicans took back the majority, and then became Majority Leader after Eric Cantor lost his primary.

I just want her to be stripped of her committee appointments, and any power in them. I looks like this will happen when the entire chamber votes on it.

I don't care if she stays as a member. Actually ... let her stay. It will be a huge liability for the GOP come 2022 elections, as the wacko will continue to spew psychotic, bigoted, QAnon gibberish.
Wouldn't be surprised if more in the electorate decide to change their registered party, from Republican to Independent (if not directly to Democratic) over the next 2 years.

He's now a weed enthusiast, so that probably has something to do with it.

After McCarthy it’ll be someone like Jordan or Scalise.

- snip -

It appears IndyRep may have gotten his wish, because the Democratic Leadership is really hammering on the Q thing.

Is this really going to stick though? The GOP has called every Democrat that walked for the past decade  a socialist, and it doesn't really move the needle much. I'm not sure calling every Republican that walks QAnon is going to move the needle much either

Republicans have nothing to back up calling Democrats socialists, so it isn't effective. The public has had an opportunity to do see that many Republicans are either connected to Q-Anon or unwilling to condemn it.

The socialist label has stuck much better since Democrats actually began calling themselves socialists.

These ads don't just happen in a vacuum.  The GOP tests them and knows they're effective.  And if you talk to real voters you will see that.

This is objectively not true lol. Firstly, when did Democrats "start" calling themselves socialists? Pretty sure Henry A. Wallace called himself a socialist and FDR still won in a landslide since 1940. Secondly, plenty of other candidates, like McGovern or even Dukakis, have been tarred as socialists for decades now and those attacks seem to have worked, and they sure worked better than they did on Biden.

Is he the dumbest person to ever be elected to the Senate? I can't think of anyone in recent memory who comes close.

If she would make this same speech publicly, including an unequivocal denouncement of the Capitol storming and explicit admission that the 2020 election was not stolen, I would be fine dropping everything and letting her be on whatever committee she's assigned to, and I think the House Democrats would drop it.

weird that he says "just for context", but then doesn't provide the context.

Some sources are reporting that she did in fact dismiss any idea that the school shootings were fake.  Conflicting reports on exactly what was said.

Of course she'll say school shootings are real now, she needs to pay lip service. It doesn't mean she really means it.

It's the party of Q, school shooting deniers, and hateful people who care more about the latest conspiracy theory than improving Americans' lives. Dems need to punish Republicans in the press over this the way Republicans have used AOC+Sanders, to some degrees of success in corners of the country, to paint Democrats as communist. The difference is that the GOP literally has transformed into the party of Q and Greene-type believers. It's completely unacceptable that someone with such completely delusional views was elected to office and is a protege of the former president.

Honestly I would love to see her forced into running in her actual home, the 6th district. It would be hilarious and McBath might get like 80% of the vote.
