Donald Trump runs for president in 1996 and becomes the Republican nominee in a crowded field. Like in 2016, he runs a populist campaign that's focused on illegal immigration, opposition to free trade and "law and order". He's basically a higher energy Ross Perot, who doesn't run in this scenario. How does Trump's message resonate and how does he perform in the general?
