He probably would have won Ohio.  I am not sure as to whether or not he would have won Florida or Pennsylvania had he picked Portman.

Portman really didn't give the ticket anything more than Ryan did, aside from a better shot at winning his bigger home state.

Probably not, no, not least because the ability of a vice-presidential nominee to help their ticket's performance in their own home state doesn't really exist anymore.

He would have been a better fit than Paul Ryan to win FL. Some people say that one of the reasons why Romney lost FL to Obama is because of Ryan’s past opposition to the Cuba embargo, which may have cost Cuban-American votes, an electorate that is key to victory in FL.

Picking Portman might have made things worse for Romney, as he apparently his son is gay, and that would be anathema to the GOP base.

Obama gets the 2008 map plus Missouri.

Republican voters were fine with Cheney's lesbian daughter.

That's because George Bush was trusted by evangelical Christians whose support would be necessary for a Republican to win in November.

Romney, being a Mormon, would not have that trust. Remember, they think he's in a cult.

True, quite true. Mormons also have different ethical standards than your average evangelical.
