People are greatly overrating the ease of a 50 seat majority. Republicans couldn't even repeal Obamacare (something they had pledged to do repeatedly) with 54 seats.

The difference is that most Democratic bills are popular.  Republican ones aren't.  The only reason Democratic policies haven't been enacted into law is because Mitch hasn't brought them to the floor.  There are a lot of low hanging fruit bills that could easily pass in terms of voting rights, taxing the ultra rich, probably even gun control.
