Eh, I think it's a bit more nuanced than that. It isn't that they're absolved of criticism or opposition -- I think it's that they want to be able to have a level playing field. In other words, lots of folks believe that a woman should be allowed to do all the female equivalent of things that Trump did and largely get away with it, whereas obviously that would never happen.
I'm a Black man in America, so I know that there's not a level playing field. However, many of the people who have been angered by Manchin/Collins/Romney opposition to Tanden have basically said "Oh, it must be because she's a POC/woman, that's why they are opposed to her". That's very reductive and obviously false.

Additionally, others have brought up "What about Trump?" but that makes no sense. Manchin and Romney have voted to convict Trump twice, Collins just voted to convict Trump. Others have said "Well, they voted for many Trump appointees like Bill Barr, Mike Pompeo, Jeff Sessions, Brett Kavanaugh, etc". That also doesn't make sense because duh, Romney and Collins are Republicans and Manchin represents West Virginia - one of the most Republican states in America - LOL.

What are the chances Murk votes for Tanden?

Unsure, but it's bribery time. Murk, how would you like a free bridge over Knick Arm?

I wonder what the odds are that Manchin and Murkowski end up abstaining on Tanden, thus making it so she gets confirmed with a 49-49 vote. Murkowski ended up doing that with Kavanaugh...
No lol. Manchin said that he will vote NO not that he will abstain.

IIRC, Murk voted no on Kavanaugh; I don’t think she abstained.

She technically voted no, but she paired her vote with Steve Daines who had to attend his daughter's wedding, so she was recorded as "present".

She abstained. She was opposed to the nomination,  but voted present because Steve Daines couldn't be there.

Well we see now why Mitch didn't let Garland have a hearing. He would have been confirmed easily.

Can someone tell me why Republicans in the Senate are so unfavorable towards Haaland?

Yeah, this is beyond ridiculous at this point. Especially the fact that the Justice Department is still without a leader at its helm. Garland needs to be approved quickly. He's needed there.

I agree that this doesn't tell the story most of the time but does contribute to some of the vitriol toward her. Being "nice on Twitter" is seen as a positive largely only for one side of the aisle at the moment.

Yeah, it's too bad that the President of the Senate doesn't have any real power...it would have been nice to have Biden stroll into the Senate and force a vote. Ha!

have not seen any evidence that they are, just assumption from some that they would be for energy policy reasons. I think she will get through with 70+ votes.

But when Garland was nominated to fill Scalia's seat, Biden was indeed King of the Senate.

I now accept my accolades Tongue

This also makes it a lot more likely that he votes against Haaland btw.

Motion to limit debate (cloture) on Linda Thomas-Greenfield is agreed to, 75-20.

EDIT: It seems like the final vote on Thomas-Greenfield will be immediately after the Vilsack vote.

EDIT (2): So, I was a little confused, but I think I have it now. Tomorrow, they will first vote on LTG as US representative to the UN Security Council (at 11:30am) followed by a cloture vote for her to be the representative to the UN General Assembly (immediately following). Then, there's the Vilsack vote at 2:30 and then, the final LTG vote immediately following that.
