Why does Duckworth have to be a pain on the waiver? This is annoying.

Reminder that because the Waiver is legislation, it will need 60 votes. (then there is a separate vote on the nomination that is simple majority)

Schumer said that there might be a vote this evening. If so, it'll likely be on Avril Haines for DNI.

Who voted no on Haines? I’m guessing the usual suspects, Cruz, Hawley, Tuberville

I know Lee, Paul, Marshall, Blackburn, Hagerty and Hawley were NOs, as was I think Risch. Trying to find a full roll to confirm.

EDIT: see above

I suppose, although Risch is kinda random.

Yeah, it is kind of weird. Maybe I was wrong but I was under the impression that Risch was mainstream and obscure enough to not face much consequence for voting to convict and would be more likely to, especially having just been re-elected.

Joe Manchin (Closeted R - WV) is a YES on the Waiver

Ah yes, a closeted Republican would vote to convict a Republican in the 2nd reddest state in the country on the Presidential level, despite only 1 actual Republican voting to convict, convict from a state where the President is unpopular.

10 AM Today: Buttigieg Hearing

On the House side, anticipated members of the House Armed Services Committee (most committee members have not been ratified by the House yet) will hold a closed-door briefing with Austin. In the afternoon, the House is expected to vote on and pass H.R. 335, Authorizing the Waiver for Austin. It will then proceed to the Senate, where it must pass before the vote on the nomination itself can take place.

Quote
POLITICO: Josh Hawley will delay swift confirmation of Biden’s DHS pick

GOP Sen. Josh Hawley announced on Tuesday that he plans to object to swift consideration of President-elect Joe Biden’s nominee to lead the Department of Homeland Security, a move that will delay the installment of Biden’s national-security team.

Hawley, who has come under heavy scrutiny for leading a push to object to the Electoral College certification of Biden’s victory, cited the incoming administration’s immigration policies. The Missouri senator argued that the nominee, Alejandro Mayorkas, “has not adequately explained how he will enforce federal law and secure the southern border given President-elect Biden’s promise to roll back major enforcement and security measures.”

Hawley pulling a very Hawley move.

Austin has been approved by the Armed Services Committee and is ready for floor action once the waiver passes.
