Starting with

The Beatles - Abbey Road

5/10

What to say about this. I've listened it once and never returned to it. I've listened it again. To be fair, it's like I can't remember a single song. It's so forgettable, cheesy and utterly dated. Perhaps they were a great influence for music later on, but they do not interest me. I never get the feeling I should care about them. Some songs are better than others. I see potential in I want you which is probably the most experimental/psychedelic song out of the album, but I don't think i'll remember a single song out of this album after today.

I gave it 7/10 last time. I downgrade it to 5/10 which makes it tied for worst album i've ever listened together with a The Black Eyed Peace album. Although to be fair, i'll re-listen a lot of albums and changed my rating system this year.

Some people say that i need to look at this at a time perspective. If this was released today, it wouldn't get a 5, more like a 2 and to be fair no-one would listen it, no music label would even dare to publish it. But they certainly have a valid point in that you have to consider time in it, and while that's hard to do. You can't completely indulge into a decade and somehow forget all your later influences, The Doors already proved that you could make AMAZING music during that age. So I believe I would've preferred other bands (the doors, black sabbath, jimi hendrickx, perhaps janis joplin). I also think theoretically The Rolling Stones should suit me better but perhaps their albums are even worse. Either way, not a fan, never will be a fan.

To get you informed about my plans, i want to start with some 60's albums and move on slowly to later years so this will be some kind of music journey while I decide my own pace, so i'll start creating a list with 60's albums i want to listen. Feel free to add suggestions, esp. if you know something i might like and that I did overlook.

Feel free to disagree (i suspect some will mostly disagree esp. in earlier era's.) and discuss and give your own insights. The start might contain little to no recommendations as i'm not really knowledgeable about earlier era's and I also want to notify that I'll skip jazz for the earlier era's because I don't want to explore the 1950's and earlier, but we will see. Later era's will contain a lot more genres naturally.

Good job completely discrediting yourself just one post into this. I have to say, that's impressive.

We need some Johnny Hallyday, Françoise Hardy, Sylvie Vartan, Dalida and Marie Laforêt on that 60s list lol (as a Belgian you probably know some of them)

In all seriousness, I tend to be more a "greatest hits" type music listener, there are very few artists where I could listen to all their songs.

Opinions (of one of the best rock albums of all time) aside, my absolute favorite part of this is starting a thread of music reviews and then saying in the first three sentences that you've only listened to the album you're reviewing twice.

The Doors - The Doors

9/10

This is also an album i've listened before and even multiple times. It's a great album with many good songs, especially the first, Light My Fire and of course the magjificent song: The End. I really like it. It keeps me interested and it's as of now the oldest music and album I really like with as well my favourite 60's song. It's remarkable that this is already so old, but at times you can notice it's age. I gave it a 10/10, but i'll downgrade it to a nine but it's still great though.

i'm not going to listen to albums i dislike more than once? I know some music can grow, but like no-one would be able to make reviews than?

Like from The Doors, i immediately loved it...

i'll save them for later, but I believe I don't like the genre. Aretha Franklin/Otis Redding/John Coltrane shouldn't be forgotten. And add Jacques Brel to your list as well.

Well, lol. I've listened to a cover of Francoise Hardy from Os Mutantes. I liked the cover, than listened the original after the album was finished, and i preferred the original (mainly because it was longer).

We need reviews of Minor Threat or Rites of Spring, not boring albums from the 60s.

Follows up the obscene 5/10 rating of Abbey Road by also giving 5/10 to Rubber Soul and Revolver...

i want to be done with the 60's before the end of january (perhaps sooner). In february, i'll get to the 70's. It's called exploration. The 70's will involve punk and metal, two genres i barely have listened ever (exc. for Deftones and Crass). I'll also listen to David Bowie (who I like, but haven't listened to a lot) and Pink Floyd, and a lot more.

Sorry i don't like it, i haven't come across a single song I like. Not even a single one. All other albums have songs I like, and most multiple ones.

I'm not supposed to like The Beatles, because everyone else does, like for real??? I give ratings the way I want.

At least, people should give me kuddo's for trying to broaden my taste and exploring music history, and all I get is being sh**tted on because somehow I don't like the Beatles.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6xcwt9mSbYE

This is an example of a very good song, that is epic and beautiful

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZeMlQEWEg2Q

idem dito, less experimental though, more weight on lyrics

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O4irXQhgMqg

another song that sounds still novel and still stands today..

Show me a similar single of The Beatles (aside of some cheesy pop hits that don't sound catchy/novel/interesting today)...

Well, perhaps i'm harsh on them. They have some songs that are okay (most of them not being on the albums i've listened but why are those albums rated much weaker?). I give them a 5 which is okay, i don't really like it but it isn't terrible. If i was a true hater, i would rate them 1 or 2 which means that the music shouldn't have been made (though tbf that's almost never the case). If some people like it, okay. But me not liking them doesn't mean my taste is terrible, perhaps different.

I don't think i'll ever like them. The albums i love are almost always albums i've liked at first, and than grow the more you listen to it. There are some exceptions, but there are very few of them. I used to hate Radiohead, and I now absolutely love them with passion, but it took me a lot of listens. But Radiohead is less accessible than The Beatles (aside of early hit Creep that doesn't represent them) and my music taste also evolved over time.
