Originally, I put him as 2nd worst behind only Buchanan, but no guarantee I’m keeping him there after this whole fiasco. I’ll have to wait a while to see what exactly are the long term effects of what recently happened, combined with other things he did later in his term.

Without any doubt he is the worst.

And historians will remember him and rank him as the absolute worst.

Would you have held this position prior to November 7th?

Yes.  Everything since then has simply solidified my position.

Yes and I'm not even sure it's close now.

Feels weird that just four days ago I would be passionately arguing that Bush, Buchanan etc were just as bad. Not anymore.

Bush was better than Trump by a mile. Not that that’s saying much, but nonetheless true.

Buchanan is a lot more tricky though.

No, Buchanan is worse. Though if you switched Buchanan and Trump's terms around (ie Trump being president in the late 1850s and Buchanan in the modern era); Buchanan would easily handle the 2017-2020 period much better than Trump. He was just president under the worst possible time (and did a poor job).

The only positive thing I can still say about Trump is he didn't start any new wars. Bush, while he did not hate America like Trump, ordered thousands of soldiers to their death for absolutely no good reason.

Yes, and it’s not even close. As incompetent and corrupt as the rest of the worst, but what makes him uniquely awful is that he was the only President to actively seek the demise of the Republic.

I still lean no. Even 3 days ago I debated over whether he should even be in my Top 10 worst but I certainly put him right in there now!

This. If Trump escalated further with Iran than he did and started a new war, He would easily be the worst in my opinion. He's probably my #5 worst or something now.

With the exception of actual dictators, he's probably a strong contender for the worst president ever worldwide. He's a nightmare combination of obvious mental problems, lack of political/executive experience, and disdain for democratic institutions and norms.

For me, the difference is that while neither of them were good presidents (although both did make an at least decent choice here or there) I think Bush thought he was doing the right thing. In other words, I think he truly acted in what he thought were in the bests interests for America.

The same can’t be said for Trump, which is why I currently rank him as 2nd worse behind Buchanan.

Lmao not really. Far from it. And this is by no means a defense of Trump.

There is a world outside the US and a long history outside the last 4 years.

He is the worst American president of the last 100 years. All you have to do is look at the last 12 months.

Andrew Jackson is probably the worst of all time.

Americentrism, yes, but it's an equal and opposite historiographical error to presentism to dismiss as presentism any idea that what we're currently living through is unique.

To answer the thread question, a strong argument can be made that he is the worst ever, yes. I've been receptive to such an argument ever since his betrayal of the Kurds. In a hundred years the debate will be whether Trump is worse because of his uniquely bad personal qualities and behavior in office or whether Buchanan is worse because his actions had worse consequences; in fact, depending on how bad 1. normalized political violence and 2. climate change get as we slouch into the mid-twenty-first century, the latter might even come to be seen as a contrarian position.

He was bordering before Wednesday, now he definitely is. Worse than Buchanan. He de facto enouraged a coup d'etat in the United States. This is unforiveable. Not to mention all the other lies, corruption, coverups and so on.
