Republicans seem to be coalescing around the idea that the trial is unconstitutionally because Trump’s no longer in office, and that we should just ✨move on✨. How do they sleep at night?

I don't think the unconstitutional claim has any merit at all, and that "they" know this, and that it is thus made with disingenuously, as something to "cower" behind. Color me cynical on this one.

That’s true of most if not all Republican procedural objections to just about everything.

Interesting. Even before, there was a good chance that Romney, Murkowski, Collins, Sasse and Toomey would get on board. If Mitch supports it, it seems likely that Thune would join him, and maybe other establishment types.

So do they believe a sitting President can commit any crime they want right before their successor is inaugurated and get away with it?

This is good. If the Dems want to have a shot at convicting Trump, they're going to have to play nice with Mitch.

I'm good with waiting 2 weeks. Trump's already out of office, and the evidence has been getting stronger by the day.

You really think the D's have the votes to convict Trump, Graham already said Mcconnell is out if he votes to convict

Daines, Rick Scott and Joni Ernst which are bipartisan senators already said they are acquitting Trump and Scott is Chairman of RSCC

They think that Hunter Biden is an impeachable crime against Biden by Fox news

No, they don't, and there should be an impeachment but it's a waste of resources when the IRS have trouble distributing Stimulus checks and tax refunds and every time you try to look for your money they said it's too many people

So many people haven't received stimulus checks and they are arguing over Impeachment

The people whom don't have direct deposit , that get paper checks, the IRS said they will be mailed at the end of Jan. No paper checks haven't gone out yet

You can always count on Republicans to do the wrong thing

If Republicans are smart (they aren't), they would dump Trump like a hot potato now that he is useless to them.

We already knew they were gonna revert back to pre insurrection, that's why Mcconnell is blockading the organization resolution.

Grassley today, whom is a Conservative but isn't partisan, said he predicts Schumer will agree not to get rid of legislative filibuster and agree to power sharing.

But, the only two items that D's can't pass thru Reconciliation is Statehood and Immigration reform. Do we really need more Latinos in this country from PR and Mexico in Covid to clog the Med system like they are already doing

Everything else Judges, Stimulus, minimum wage can pass thru Reconciliation, and Cabinet

Relevant possibly.

Trump and Justice Dept. Lawyer Said to Have Plotted to Oust Acting Attorney General

Quote
WASHINGTON — The Justice Department’s top leaders listened in stunned silence this month: One of their peers, they were told, had devised a plan with President Donald J. Trump to oust Jeffrey A. Rosen as acting attorney general and wield the department’s power to force Georgia state lawmakers to overturn its presidential election results.

The unassuming lawyer who worked on the plan, Jeffrey Clark, had been devising ways to cast doubt on the election results and to bolster Mr. Trump’s continuing legal battles and the pressure on Georgia politicians. Because Mr. Rosen had refused the president’s entreaties to carry out those plans, Mr. Trump was about to decide whether to fire Mr. Rosen and replace him with Mr. Clark.

The department officials, convened on a conference call, then asked each other: What will you do if Mr. Rosen is dismissed?

The answer was unanimous. They would resign.

I swear, if Collins just says she's "concerned" or "troubled" again and does nothing after winning over many Biden voters...

She could do whatever she wants and still win re-election. The people of Maine are clearly morons.

I think that's a bit harsh to say. Maine re-elected her with a majority of the vote despite Biden winning by nearly 10% in ME; hopefully they sent her a message that they want her to work with this new administration to help people. I may disagree with Maine's verdict but they chose her to represent them again in the US Senate and I'm just going to have to trust Mainers on this one.

Why wouldn’t she?
Apparently Maine loves being treated like idiots.

So is there really any chance of a Trump conviction at this point in time? I even feel like it will be difficult to get past 55 votes for conviction.
