Somebody tell me how “it was a stolen election” is not inciting more violence, regardless of the half-hearted attempts at quelling it?

I’m more excited than ever to see how long Trump’s prison sentence will be.

Reconvene as soon as possible and certify. A statement for democracy needs to be made.

I wonder if the other Senators still plan to object to certification after...this.

A Trump supporter has now died apparently after being shot earlier today. And yet people will still support this disgusting insurrection anyway. They are playing with their lives all for the sake of a con man. Truly disgusting idiocy on display. Hope they rot.

They’ve been led to believe that if they don’t fight with their lives, it’ll mean the end of the country — a small price to pay. All because of one man’s ego.

Brian Kemp, governor of Georgia, has shown more leadership today than President Trump. This, even though the attacks today had nothing to do with Georgia and happened hundreds of miles away.

Literally everyone has shown more leadership today than President Trump.

Is it fair to say Hawley and Cruz are screwed as far as 2024?

Never say never, but I do think based on anecdotes that this has seriously damaged their reputations among a general electorate.

From the NBC News liveblog:

Quote
Rand Paul: No more objections expected to Electoral College count

No more objections are expected as lawmakers expect to continue the certification process for the Electoral College votes Wednesday, Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., told reporters.

Both chambers of Congress were in the midst of debate on a GOP objection to the Arizona results when supporters of President Donald Trump stormed the Capitol, forcing members of the House and Senate to flee for safety.

Legislators will vote to close debate after they resume, but Paul said he does not anticipate anymore objections to the process. Republican Sens. Ted Cruz and Josh Hawley, along with other Republican lawmakers, previously threatened to object to election results in some states citing baseless claims of fraud.

The Arizona objection should never have happened in the first place. Go on Ted and Josh, don't back down now! Show us who you really are!

Republicans need to drop the clown show and sit down and shut up during the certification tonight. This isn't a game anymore and their antics caused the insurrection against the government today. If anyone pulls any crap I wouldn't mind decorum being broken and him being outright shouted down.

Is there a specific Senate rule against telling a colleague to go f*** themselves? Because I feel like that's where we're headed if Hawley objects to Pennsylvania.

This country is beyond saving, holy sh-t

Those numbers actually look better than I thought? It's the Republican Party that's clearly beyond saving.

Have yall never watched a damn House vote before? There's always at least one or two screw ups who vote the wrong way and then have to fix it.

I remember this happening during the Obamacare repeal vote too.

Scott Jennings on CNN is *pissed.* And he’s pretty reliably wishy-washy.

Oh did Mitch McConnell give him the sign off to have an opinion tonight?  What a patriot.

I’m not saying this makes him an FF or anything, but it’s a good indicator of how serious some Republicans are about potential removal.

Nobody at CNN is entitled to an opinion on anything Trump supporters do until they take responsibility for this. If not for them Trump would've faded from the spotlight before the primary and they've spent four years giving them a voice and making this mainstream.

Again, I’m not saying he’s off the hook for past sins! I’m just reporting the feeling on the ground. I can point something out without necessarily applauding it.

First leader to propose this other than McGovern right?

This feels pretty significant. I doubt he'd come out in public and endorse impeachment without consulting Pelosi first.

Come ON Nancy! “Invoke the 25th amendment by tomorrow or the House will begin impeachment proceedings” should not be that hard to say.

The fact that these people are dumb enough to brag about this on Twitter...

They all think Trump is going to remain in office and pardon them. It’s really not a huge leap from point one to point two.
