Don't think we should have locked the first one so let's not do it here. Certain people will just take that as evidence that they're right. Better to just beat them down.

All the Barbara Boxer 2004 whataboutism has aged like milk. Don't remember anyone trying to kill Dick Cheney in 04.

Trump needs to concede the election and then resign right now like de Gaulle did in 68 and tell everyone to go home. That's the only chance of peacefully ending this. Of course he's not going to do that, though.

This is not a "whataboutist" defense of what is going on but I absolutely think the weak ass response to the summer riots contributed to this. These guys might not think they could get away with this if they'd seen the CHAZ clowns getting rolled over by armored cars on TV.

The unfortunate thing about all of this is that once the barrier has been broken down, this sort of thing becomes tacitly legitimized. In the same way Turkish coups became legitimate over the past 70 years as a means of protecting Kemalism , so too may this become a normalized thing in American society.

And its very very difficult to put the cat back into the bag once its out.

In a similar vein to my CHAZ comment this is why they need to be aggressive here. Wouldn't mind them shooting rioters at all. People won't pull stuff like this if they think they could actually die.

Mow these people down. Respectability politics ain't going to break the fever in America: only cold, hard, unrelenting force will.

A message needs to be sent here or the right will keep trying stuff like this and the left will start too.

Comments like this tip their hand, they'd have no issues with this if it was black nationalists doing it.

Watched Trump's statement and it was completely worthless. If he's not going to admit he lost and/or leave office this isn't going to end peacefully. These people think this is a real liberty tree situation and not just a made up controversy.

Normally I would say the president would absolutely resign in this situation, but there was "no way" Trump wouldn't be impeached for all the other things he's done. The Republicans refuse to hold him accountable for anything and he refuses to hold himself accountable.

This can't be allowed to go on any longer. Jared/Ivanka/Melania and anyone else Trump might actually listen to need to make a last ditch effort to get him to resign, maybe just point blank tell him his supporters at the capital will all get shot if he doesn't. If that doesn't work the national guard just needs to clear the place out. They need to get this thing under control today or within 24 hours. The whole world is watching. This is not a protest, it's an insurrection against the government and it is not disproportionate to put it down with violent force.

Reconvene as soon as possible and certify. A statement for democracy needs to be made.

If there was a war and fighting DC Congress would just convene somewhere else. Get all of them in a room somewhere and do the certification vote and the Republicans had better just STFU and drop their little stunt after seeing what it caused.

These Trumpsters have no idea how much their antics are going to backfire on them...

I hope the Republicans get f*****g nuked in the 2022 midterms after this. They need to get tossed deep into the wilderness and hopefully learn their lesson and return to those of us in normieville.

Republicans need to drop the clown show and sit down and shut up during the certification tonight. This isn't a game anymore and their antics caused the insurrection against the government today. If anyone pulls any crap I wouldn't mind decorum being broken and him being outright shouted down.

I was expecting the support for it to be way higher with Republicans to be honest considering polls have shown like 80% think the election was rigged.

IDK why 30% say they're patriots but only 10% say they're pro-democracy. So they're anti-democracy patriots?

Good lord, shut up Hawley no one cares, you can't retroactively toss out ballots when the election has already happened. If you don't like the Penn mail ballot law that would only apply to future elections.

"Trump and I, we've had a hell of a journey"

Does that mean they had sex?

Why does Trump even care about how the voting goes here? This is a formality that has no effect on the results of the election and basically no one is going to vote for these objections anyway. This is a giant display of petty vanity, just trying to feel good that a handful of Republicans voted for objections.
