At this point, his supporters’ needs or wishes are irrelevant.

Trump is leaving office in 2 weeks. Removing him a few days early is not worth the cost.

The DC National Guard can be activated for "state" duty without POTUS, even if POTUS is technically its Commander-in-Chief, since he delegates this authority down the chain of command. This may surprise you but there's actually hundreds of officers at the capitol.  I didn't see a single one making arrests.

There were literally pictures in the news of police making arrests inside the Capitol.
