Anyone else see the video of this Capitol cop running away from a horde of Trump supporters with his nightstick? He would have been totally justified in opening fire.

Let's call this by name: It's an attempted fascist coup. Ergo, this is treason.

If anything, Hawley and Cruz are now the frontrunners for 2020.

I generally oppose lethal force used by police but this has got to come to an end.

If the police start killing people on the spot, especially innocent protestors, fire will be returned. They better be smart this time.

These people are not “protestors”.

Just as we saw with BLM last summer, most people protested peacefully and a loud minority protested violently. It's unfair to paint these groups with a broad brush.

There is no “loud minority”. These people are criminals who should be met with the full force of the law.

And you know what's funny? This is the exact same thing the blue avvies were saying last summer. Now the shoe is on the other foot.

Americans love their guns, yes, but the vast majority of gun-owners are law-abiding citizens, and they would never harm another person except in cases of self-defense. They are allowed to carry openly where the law allows. Yes, prosecute the violent lawbreakers, but even still, let's not view those people in the same way we view home invaders or armed robbers.

I agree, I'm not saying that the cops should be indiscriminately killing people, but people's lives are in danger right now (unlike some Target getting looted or something). At the very least the security personnel should have been way more prepared for this.

I saw this on the television in the break room at work as I was clocking out. Now, I'm home, and I am floored. Unfortunately, many of Trump's voters are already JUSTIFYING AND SUPPORTING THIS!  This is unacceptable! Trump is the worst President this country has ever had. Yes, he's worse than Buchanan and worse than Andrew Johnson. This should never have been allowed to happen.

Hopefully the events of today might wake Americans up to the fascist nature of the Republican party

Coup is a weird way to say riot.

Riot is a weird way to describe storming the Capitol.

Fire them.  Actually, fire everyone who was involved in this. Comb through the footage of every terrorist at this thing and make them unemployed for life--even after they get out of jail.

This is unforgiveable.

I’m not opposed to people owning and having fire arms. That’s their constitutional right as citizens, and I support it. But this? Going to the capital, breaking in, storming the House and Senate chambers? Unacceptable.

How the f—k is it that even during the Civil War, with DC surrounded by one state in rebellion and another slave state with a large population sympathetic to the rebellion, nothing like this ever happened? They kept DC more secure during the CIVIL WAR than they can now. Unbelievable.
i was just thinking of that

I understand this isn’t really important right now, but how in the hell is security this lax in literally the most important building to protect in the entire country in a country with a $4 trillion GDP that fancies itself to be the greatest in the world? Especially on a day when they knew there was going to be unrest? My local Wal-Mart was more prepared to handle potential BLM related riots than the Capitol was for this. The first bipartisan hearings in the 117th Congress should be whoever is responsible for keeping the Capitol secure. I want answers. I also want answers from the Pentagon and the Secret Service.
