Now that the dust has settled, I hope we can all at least recognize that those calling for the police to fire on the protestors was absolutely insane.  They handled the situation absolutely appropriately and minimized the carnage.  The Congress is already back in session and it doesn't appear that there is any irreparable damage.  It could have been a LOT worse if people had let their emotions direct them.

A fascist coup was attempted in our nation's capital by a horde of doughy incels, and the Capitol Police literally opened the gates to let them in. If that doesn't earn your condemnation, then you are beyond the event horizon of authoritarianism.

If you're going to make a partisan issue out of this, imagine the impact this can potentially have on the party makeup given how narrow D control is.

It took unbelievable rot for the Soviet Union to collapse, and even there there was a fight and some Soviet holdouts. Organizational and planning ability aside, the plot here seemed to almost have succeeded and was going pretty well till the Virginia and Maryland national guard got involved.

No, he really really thinks it's gonna happen even though he's unlikable, out of touch, and literally looks like a neanderthal.

Hawley is actually very intelligent with a strong Educational resume, and he has the youth and looks that are advantages. But after watching clips of him at rallies during his Senate Election- I have definitely thought he completely lacks the necessary charisma or ability to command a crowd needed to ever have a shot at getting the nomination.  (he lacks even an once of charisma (esp in front of a crowd or campaign rally).

His only remote possibility was being picked as someone's running mate... which now is likely off the table imo.  Haley's stock as a potential VP pick probably went up today (as she & Hawley may have competed for being picked as a runningmate for some potential nominees).

Youth and looks?  He literally looks like the missing link.

By rural missouri standards he's pretty handsome.

I could see the Oath Keepers and Proud Boys be completely disintegrated because of this, breaking into numerous radicalized factions much harder to crack at every chapter. I think that leaves just the Atomwaffen division as the strongest Alt-right organization

The paramilitary groups of the 1990s never dreamed of this moment getting not only as much PR, but such incredible popular support across the country. In a span of a little more than a decade since the Great Recession, what were once irrelevant loons used as a joke have become major in conducting attacks on government property from the Malhuer Reserve to the White House, active in terrorising the population from Ferguson to Charlottesville, and managing to have some relation with the police and the president against the Left and the Democratic Party.

Even if the current big 4 disintegrate under FBI operations against them–Oath Keepers, Three Percenters, Atomwaffen Division, and the Proud Boys–the splinters will be even harder to infiltrate and destroy. While the true danger of all of this will take some time, as a significant amount of them are behind bars for the coup attempt, it is only a matter of when they get tired living under a Democratic Administration. If the Democratic Party is still in national relevance for the presidency by the late 2020s  and has a shoo in in to win in the early 2030s, by then we will see a cloud of terror not seen since Reconstruction.

Apparently the link from the Oath Keepers to Trump also spilled out their leader’s collaboration in the whole thing. Stewart Rhodes and his organization are toast.

Ok, now this is perhaps the most epic post of 2021

Today (March 20) was the date that some of the conspiracy theorists were talking about after nothing happened on March 4.  Nothing continues to happen.

Possibly related: there's a die-hard Trump supporter in my neighborhood who's had a Trump-Pence sign in their yard since at least the beginning of 2020.  They took it down today and replaced it with a "Pray for America" sign.

I think most have lost all hope and the few diehards have split in multiple directions to irrelevancy. Much like the militia loons now.

It feels as if now the militia loons will enter dormancy until they get heeded to call from the next Republican president. They seriously bit more that they can chew and are severely demoralized and functionally inert with all their middle members dealing with their legal fees. Most likely that they will stick with laying low and only occasionally peeping their heads when it’s safe and easy PR to do so. However, it seems like the rhetoric of hate will cause lone wolves to fill in the gap, like what we saw in Atlanta.
Can we seriously change the thread title? It’s unnecessarily fearmongering and aged in a time where now it’s focused on the investigation and trial of the putschists.

So apparently unbeknownst to me the 3%ers officially closed doors in February. The revived militia movement has ceased to be from 2007–2021, what’s left are small husks of its corpse across the nation and small microsects without any serious chance at growth. Of course, with many seeking to make up time that they didn’t take due to the shutdowns, lone wolf terrorism is always gonna be an issue.
