MSNBC is speculating - and I repeat speculating - that part of the reason there isn't a big move to totally clear the Capitol and grounds is so they can more systematically make sure they know who all is there for future prosecution once they have the resources gathered to do so.

Virginia National Guard (possibly state troopers, can't quite tell, heard both) is now sweeping the Capitol. I'm not sure if they're aiming to fully clear it or just make sure everyone is where they think it is, but that's very good news.

I missed the original story, what did he do?

He was the "captain is last off the ship" and made sure everyone was safely out of the chamber before leaving himself as the rioters came down the hall. I'm not sure if this was before or after the staffer rescued the electoral votes, though.

I'm skimming Free Republic right now to see what the reaction to this is within the right-wing bubble. Looks like two of the main lines of argument are "the rioters were all Antifa dressed as Trump supporters" and "Trump really needs to release all the evidence of fraud soon or things are going to get really bad."

Jean Shaheen speeches are like if I wrote a speech at the last minute while very drunk and then someone edited it to sound professional. Love that she name-dropped Bidzina Ivanishvili in a 5 minute speech after a forcible takeover of the Capitol.
