Pence gave it a lot more formality than it usually does. Like in the past the chair doesn't ask if there are any objections for every state, just responded to anyone that came forward. The chair also doesn't announce that the certificate is the only one presented by the state. Not saying it's a bad thing, maybe it's better to dot all the i's this time.

I hate to admit it, but Ted Cruz has a point here. It could be good for Biden to have this election audited so that he would be perceived as more legitimate. But I don't think Trump supporters would accept this election result even if God himself came down from heaven to certify the results.

Yeah but Barr already said there is no fraud, there is no serious allegation of fraud to investigate. In theory I'd agree with you but Cruz isn't acting in good faith, he's just virtue signaling for his 2024 run.

But such an unprecedented move would imply there was something particularly suspicious about this year’s results, when there wasn’t. Trying to give the cultists credibility is not a good idea. As you point out, they cannot be reasoned with.

We've had four "illegitimate" presidents in a row now, so I am desperate to find some avenue to heal this country. But you're right. Cruz cannot be trusted to be honest about his own intentions; he is clearly trying to have it both ways by appeasing Trump supporters while also playing lip service to democracy and historical precedent.

PBS has moved on to cover the protest/riot/insurrection/whatever going on outside the capital. They're on the steps of the Capitol and the balcony already. I sure hope the Capitol police and National Guard are prepared and well armed for the occasion. The left forces were specifically discouraged from counter-protesting, I think that was a mistake. BLM and Antifa could counter this crowd easily.
