The 1980s were obviously quite good for the gop on a national level. huge inroads in most white areas and working class areas of white demographics.

but what sticks out amid all that is the complete failure of ronald reagan or HW Bush to make any decent inroads among hispanic voters. Why?

What did the dems do that kept them so strong among this demographic?

How much of the citizen voting age population was Hispanic/Latino in the 1980s? Outside of just being the party of labor and immigrants (and the US being less racially inclusive back then) I don't think the Dems really did anything on that front...

My guess is that he probably got 35-40% of the Hispanic, but alot of them tend to be poorer and working class which is where Reagan didn't do well with

Reagan did relatively worse in white working class areas, the Reagan coalition was fundamentally a middle class one.
