Question: Will he?
#1
Yes, with a minimum of fuss

#2
Yes, but with as much bellyaching and MAGA virtue signaling as he can get away with

#3
No, he'll hold his breath and threaten to run away and get ruled out of order

#4
No, he'll play the Pence Card and we'll get four more years (doomer/anxiety/catastrophization-prone answer)

Option 2.

Mentally though he really wants to get his 2024 campaign going, so doesn't really mind it in actuality.

Option two, but only because he thinks he'll end up with option three if he doesn't. If he thought he could successfully choose option four, he'd do so without hesitation.

Yes (he literally has no choice), but Trump's subsequent meltdown will end any chance of him ever holding any office again.

Pence has one job, be a glorifed vote counter. He can whine and scream but at the end of the day that is all he can be. Sadly for him Trump has no idea how things work, god speed Pence.

What does "as much bellyaching & MAGA virtue signaling as he can get away with" mean exactly? Because if it's just him doing the regular vote-counting job but recognizing any & all validly-lodged objections as quickly as possible, then yes.

LOL

Well, the President Pro Temp is going to care more about preserving the institutional power of the senate than any VP, so this is good for those concerned about shenanigans.

He is Prez of the Senate and McConnell takes orders from Pence, as Mcconnell is in his final days as Majority Leader, Mcconnell already said that Biden is Prez

I mean, to be clear, it's terrifying that this is even being discussed, even though the consensus in all non-fear-porn sources is that Pence would be thrown out on his ass by a bipartisan majority in both chambers if he tried any funny business. It's terrifying that Trump is getting his news and legal strategies from people like Peter Navarro and John Eastman, it's terrifying that we have two more weeks of his presidency to go, it's terrifying that a non-split Congress in 2025 might just """count""" the electoral votes for whichever candidate they feel like, etc.

Was talking about how it ends Pence's chances of holding office. I now see my post was ambiguous.

Do Trump and his enablers really think Al Gore wouldn't have done something if he actually had the power to throw out electoral votes in 2001?

Apparently Trump, and some of his toadies too, genuinely seem to think that the Vice President simply saying "The Electoral College has been voted to be certified, but I refuse to do it and therefore Trump and myself win again" is how our leaders should be chosen now.

This is probably the most asinine and desperate attempt yet.

Bump. Turns out the answer was #1. He showed up, did his job, and even went out of his way to project unideological gravitas and rational-legal authority after the terrorist attack/attempted putsch. Whoda thunk it.

I don't give him that much credit.  He just seemed bored, tired, and like he wanted to be anywhere else.  He did his job like a robot, but what else could he have done.

This applies to everything with Mike Pence.
