Trump lost. Would the runner-up to the Republican nomination have won?

Biden easily. We don’t even know if Trump’s base this year would turn out for a trumpist that’s not him, and they definitely would not for someone actively anti-Trump

He loses Texas and Iowa too.

Bullock probably flips the seat in Montana.

A pro choice/pro gay Republican who was still broadly culturally conservative might be the only kind of candidate who could win a legit landslide these days. However, barely any people like that exist and they'd never make it out of a Republican primary.

He endorsed Hillary in 2016, that alone would disqualify him for most of the GOP

A pro choice Republican nominee would immediately result in a fairly large scale defection of evangelicals and Mormons to a socon third party candidate.

No. Trump is a stronger candidate than Generic R.

No, but I don’t think he’d be completely destroyed. He has less loyal supporters than Trump, but he pisses off less people as well.

No, Trump only won on the back of Gary Johnson and Bush W sure did on Ralph Nadar,, Rs need a viable third party candidate to win, Jorgensen and Kayne West were too weak to make a difference.

The B LM movement hurt Kayne West chances at making a dent in Bidens appeal, otherwise, AA would have cost Biden a victory.

But, Hunter Biden and ACB and Pelosi botching the stimulus did cost D's wave insurance seats

You'd have to think that if Weld was able to primary Trump he'd have done it on the backs of traditionally Republican suburban voters and would come into the general with support in this group.  Still, I don't think he could have won and I don't think anyone that has successfully primaried a sitting president could do it.

I'm skeptical of the ability of any major swing to a third party or independent candidate and I do see many Trump voters staying home but I also expect enough votes to go to the Constitution and Libertarian parties to flip a couple states to Biden.

Trump endorsed Hillary in 2008! He only left the Democrats after Obama became the nominee

Yeah, but there were 2 terms between that and his campaign, Trump endorsed McCain for the general elections, so  it could be seen as a mostly anti-Obama vote and I don't think conservatives/Republicans hated 2008 Hillary as much as they did their 2016 version of her

Uh...he was Gary Johnson’s running mate in 2016.

I voted for Weld (in the 2020 primary), but unenthusiastically. I would’ve preferred Sanford.
