Let's be honest, Mr. Trump would govern as a fascist dictator if he could. The saddest part about this that his party and their elected officials are not calling this behavior out in full force. They need to admit that they were wrong and supporting this man was a deal with the devil.

And of course he should face criminal charge for this. He's de facto calling for a coup. Any member of congress, governor or mayor would be thrown out of office for this and likely thrown in jail.

so how long before the Trump stans come up with a way to say “he didn’t actually mean that, what he meant was...”

for ppl who so much claim to like having a POTUS who “says what they mean” they sure to end up spending a lot of time explaining why he didn’t actually mean what he said.

A pair of House Democrats are asking FBI Director Christopher Wray to open a criminal probe into President Donald Trump after a leaked phone call showed him pleading with Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to overturn his state's election.

"As members of Congress and former prosecutors, we believe Donald Trump engaged in solicitation of, or conspiracy to commit, a number of election crimes," Reps. Ted Lieu, D-Calif., and Kathleen Rice, D-N.Y., wrote in a letter to Wray on Monday. "We ask you to open an immediate criminal investigation into the president."

Before, I was not necessarily sure whether prosecuting Trump would be an overall good thing for the US, because of the immense division and anger on the MAGA side it would cause. Now I am convinced he has to be prosecuted for the good of the nation, to set a precedent that it is unacceptable for a president to abuse his office like this.

Nothing changed. MAGA cultists will inevitably go thermonuclear. The problem many center-leftists have is that they still believe, against all evidence, that they can harmoniously coexist with the Trumpist GOP. No, you can't. Republicans are pining for a rightwing dictator. So the more prudent course of action is negotiating for a peaceful partition.

Hell with that. There are too many good people in Trumpist areas (you know, all the ones that still voted Democratic in 2020) to abandon to neofascist damnation.

Also, these traitorous bastards should get nothing. Purge them root and branch and remove their taint from the United States.

Figuring that "President of the United States" is comparable to Imperator Romanus in power and  visibility to the world, and that 2000 years from now US Presidents will be about as much objects of historical study and literary treatment as are Roman Emperors today, I doubt that if there is a meaningful civilization 2000 years from now that Donald Trump will not get the sort of literary and academic treatment that Nero, Caligula, and Commodus still get.

We? People might be reading posts like mine as literary sources.

I am sorely tempted to reply with a laundry list of Woodbury quotes where he accuses Democrats of "finding" votes, but I realize that owning Woodbury will ultimately accomplish nothing.

Trump needs to be charged here by the Fulton County DA. This violates Georgia law.

It is likely also a violation of federal wire fraud statutes as a solicitation of fraudulent behavior over a telephone. Postal inspectors, prepare to do your job!

Netflix could make a good documentary movie about Trump and Rudy being cellmates at Rikers Island. Trump Jr. could join them too.

I need a Death of Stalin style movie about the Trump administration. Give it a few years, but we need the Veep-esque ineptitude on the silver screen. Basically Veep meets Arrested Development.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Our_Cartoon_President. Animated TV show, but still. It actually is pretty funny, but the Trump character on the show is far more likable than he is in real life.

It's really not. Pure cringe for the most part.

That more seems like a state felony that should be charged by state authoritiries. But either way, an investigation should be opened. Mr. Trump is not above the law. Theoretically it would also be charges for impeachment, though that's useless since his term is up in little over 2 weeks anyway.

Criminal actions all have rigid definitions so that some mobster convicted of a gangland murder doesn't get to say that it is a "hit" or a "rub-out" instead. Murder is so defined that it includes any deliberate or reckless homicide that has no obvious exculpation. Practically every word that has a potential meaning at law has a clear definition in the definitive Black's Law Dictionary. The US Supreme Court recognizes it as a secondary source for legal definitions (no, not Webster's, Oxford, or the American Heritage dictionaries that might fit lay use).  It offers no wiggle room. It has been translated into such languages as Czech, Farsi, and Urdu.

You can tell that Raffensperger is totally fed up and finished with Donald Trump at this point.

i don’t mean legally i just mean like randoms on social media who act like Trump could literally do anything and they would still support him.

the creative lengths they go to in order to defend their Dear Leader seem exhausting idk how they keep it up.

Great art, unless fully abstract or basically "graphic imagery", typically has some connection to reality. Bad art typically has inappropriate objects of attention (which explains why one never sees pictures of auto graveyards or the insides of slaughterhouses in art galleries), propagandistic bloating, or inept practices (shadows going in different directions, crossed eyes in portraits, incompetent use of perspective, faulty proportions, and unnatural or unrealistic depictions of known objects such as birds with four wings. Distortions, as with Salvador Dali's clocks, must have esthetic justificatiion.

What is amusing is that Raffensperger let the POTUS's call go to voicemail 18 times before finally picking up the phone (maybe Trump was calling from a different number the last time?).

Trump is so used to creative accounting when it comes to his finances and taxes that it doesn't surprise me that he thought he could get some when it comes to voting.

Potentially making a public statement to address things since his name has re-surged in the headlines across the past 36-hours?

(Brilliant prediction, I know.)

Hopefully, they filed a state lawsuit against Trump for corruption.

One party/two party consent debates are quite interesting as I don't think it is ideological from a general standpoint.
