Believe it or not, there's a lot about it I appreciate! It's mainly limited atonement that's the big sticking point (well, sola scriptura too, but Protestants gonna Protestant).

I think a better example would be that it's an analog to the LDS concept of "sons of perdition."

Sons of perdition are not merely wicked; they are incorrigibly evil... Joseph Smith declared, "You cannot save such persons; you cannot bring them to repentance" (TPJS, p. 358). No divine principle can cleanse the sons of perdition; following the last judgment, they will remain "filthy still" (D&C 29:44;88:35). It is revealed that "it had been better for them never to have been born" (D&C 76:32).
