Pritzker has a lot of problems, and isn't well liked, but unless a time machine brings 1994 Jim Edgar back, I dont see anyone they have that can actually win right now. Now a republican will win governor of Illinois in the next 12 years, but thats because Illinois is an epic disaster and there will be blowback against someone.

Illinois really needs term limits for their legislature, it would normalize the state so much.
Future Illinois trends most likely favor republicans. Illinois will probably flip before 2040
Not really. People like to make a big deal out of the city emptying out (though it grew 2% from 2010 to 2020), but the suburbs are growing and diversifying while downstate is rapidly declining.
Ah, makes sense.

Illinois will be pretty stable. Trends in either direction keep canceling each other out.

What do my Illinoisites here think the future of the Willie Wilson Party is?

I doubt he will ever get more than 5% in a statewide race. Wilson is a joke outside of a subset of the Chicago-area African American population.

Isn't it "Illisnoisans?" It certainly sounds better.
Probably, I just like to use '-ite'.

That's kind of the impression I get of him.  He seems like he's all over the map ideologically.

Do you know what his appeal actually is?  Is it any coherent ideology or more of a cult of personality?

Willie Wilson is a fascinating figure. I wouldn't say there's an "ideology" to his support in the conventional sense, but there is something inspirational about a self-made millionaire, the son of sharecroppers, who grew up in the Jim Crow South before making it big in Chicago, that resonates with a lot of people. His support is concentrated almost exclusively among Chicago's black community, especially the churches, and he emphasizes issues that are of importance to a segment of that community. Even his supporters, I think, would acknowledge that he's a bit of an eccentric, but he's undeniably authentic and an inspiration for many, and he genuinely does a lot of important charitable work.

MWRD Commissioner Kari Steele is challenging Fritz Kaegi for the Cook County Assessor position

https://chicago.suntimes.com/elections/2021/9/20/22684281/kari-steele-fritz-kaegi-cook-county-assessor-water-reclamation-district-democratic-primary

I've always liked Steele, but this is suspicious. She's a close ally of Toni Preckwinkle, who is still sad that Kaegi knocked her cartoonishly-corrupt friend Joe Berrios out of the seat four years ago.

Fritz has my vote almost certainly. F you Toni.

P.S. Maybe we could rename this to be a general megathread for Illinois in 2022?

That's a ploy to see if Blagojevich if he can really run for Gov, but Crts are more Conservative in IL and he has been barred from holding office again by Speaker Madigan and his stepdaughter Lisa

Along with Topinka, the three didn't like Blago, but Pritzker or Blago will be easily REELECTED just like TMac in VA

Downstate IL by Rauner and Kirk don't out enough monies into urban community In Chicago

I am from Chicag,

Q3 fundraising report for the Gov race:

Gov. Pritzker spends nearly $7 million in ads

Pritzker has spent $8.2M overall in Q3, has $24.M on hand.  Businessman Jesse Sullivan has far outraised the other GOP candidates, spending nearly $800K with $10M on hand.  This is largely thanks to out of state donors.  Billionaire GOP donor Ken Griffin is not supporting a candidate at this time.

Pritzker is going to easily win this, progressives in Illinois have already set their sights on Daniel Biss running right after his stint as Evanston mayor and the much more conservative remnants of the machine of the party is gone and don’t have their ducks in order to coronate Lisa yet.

Pritzker must buy a lot of Teflon to get out of the sticky situations he finds himself in that would be damaging to any other; the real estate scandal, the failed tax reform, the fight with Madigan…

Griffin-backed candidates also announced for the other statewide races this week.

Steve Kim for AG, State Rep. Tom Demmer for Treasurer, and McHenry County Auditor Shannon Teresi for Comptroller

https://tinyurl.com/my87usu4

Initial take is that Kim is the only one who might have a chance.

LOL, there's no sum Pritzker can't counter. Anyway, an insane amount of money for a gov race.

Irvin is a RINO so prepare for another 7% or so going to right-wing third party candidates, such as what happened to Rauner in 2018.  Perhaps his saving grace would be that conservatives hate Pritzker much more than they disliked Rauner in 2018, so they'll rally to the ticket.

Pritzker has been running an election season level amount of ads for himself since the beginning of 2021. Never seen this level of advertising this far out.

I don't think Irvin is even favored to get through the primary-

The attack ads just write themselves. I'm sure Darren Bailey or whoever will latch onto these points.

True that, especially with the GOP in Illinois behaving more like Bailey/Hubbard/DeVore than Edgar/Topinka.
