Would Blago attempt to run in the Republican primaries? Because if so, I expect a lot of Republican voters to not show up on Election Day if he wins.

This would never happen, but if it did, this would easily be the most entertaining Gubernatorial race in history.

He can’t.  He’s barred from ever holding office in the state again.

Blago is so old news, he already endorsed Trump and has a Terrible relationship with Speaker Madigan since he didn't appoint his daughter Lisa Madigan to Obama SEN seat

Anyway, endorsed. He turned out much better than expected in the beginning.

Strong Likely or Safe Democratic.

Very disappointing that this wasn't a presidential announcement

Lean D/Likely D, but a DuPage suburban Republican could oust him if JB is found in a corruption scheme by October 2022

I’m in IL today and I see that JB already has billboards everywhere on the expressways touting Dems’ accomplishments and touting GOP’s obstruction to those policies.  On a side note, a bit anecdotal but I saw a smattering of Gary Rabine signs in McHenry County.

It’s almost a shame. In this environment, Blago running as an R might be the only way to get the Dem to the kind of margins Obama had in ‘06 or ‘08.

Lol Blago is banned by Speaker Madigan from ever holding office again

Biden Approvals are back to where they were during Election he is a Clinton D with Tara Reade and Clinton Lewinsky, he isn't the Clinton D that can win a landslide just like he didn't win one in 202o, just an average Prez

Pritzker and DUCKWORTH in a Neutral Environment, win 52/47%

Blago only won by 7 in 2002 and by 9 in 2006, very close to 5 to me

Blago wants to be governor again and is suing so he can run again.

Now it makes sense why Pritzker was threatening retirement, because his mentor Blago wants in, Blago won't be Gov

Also anecdotal, but I was recently traveling through Northwest Cook and saw a couple of Rabine signs along the way. Yard signs obviously don't vote, but I do think his chances in the primary are underestimated. He's the only candidate from Chicagoland (Bailey/Davis/Schrimpf aren't as well known here compared to downstate) and he has the money to sell himself to the Republican voter base in the expensive market as a political outsider who aligns with conservatives on both traditional cultural issues and animus toward Pritzker/the General Assembly.

Pritzker has a lot of problems, and isn't well liked, but unless a time machine brings 1994 Jim Edgar back, I dont see anyone they have that can actually win right now. Now a republican will win governor of Illinois in the next 12 years, but thats because Illinois is an epic disaster and there will be blowback against someone.

Illinois really needs term limits for their legislature, it would normalize the state so much.

It's tough I. These Pandemic times to run any Rust belt, migration was already going to Sunbelt before Pandemic, Covid expedited it, including OH

That's why Ryan can win, the Gov race is safe R for OH but Vance or Mandel aren't Portman

They have been talking about Chicago casinos since Rauner but Downstate won't give funds for that, except for Suburbs casinos

Even athletes are leaving the Rust belt

Everyone in a Pandemic don't want to live where it's Cold and you catch the flu and Rents I'm the Rust belt are just as high as Sunbelt 1K for an Apartment

Illinois Republicans can do well in the row offices....they can defeat Alexi Giannoulias for Secy. of State, and they could win the Attorney General's office if they run suburban or Downstate Republicans for those seats

Future Illinois trends most likely favor republicans. Illinois will probably flip before 2040

Not really. People like to make a big deal out of the city emptying out (though it grew 2% from 2010 to 2020), but the suburbs are growing and diversifying while downstate is rapidly declining.
