We've had this thread before, might be more interesting now.

I'll start with an obvious one--Halifax NC, as Roanoke Rapids is much more white and thus Republican than the county as a whole.

Someone should make a map of how county seats voted compared to the county (ie the county went to trump but Biden won the county seat and vice versa.)

That'd be interesting. Though of course there are plenty of cases where county seats are podunk towns compared to where the real population is.

I'd guess there a probably at least a hundred (probably a lot more) Trump counties where Biden won the county seat a maybe a dozen or so vice versa.

San Juan NM I imagine.

Also Douglas county CO/Castle Rock if you exclude the few hundred people from Aurora in the county as Castle Rock is more exurban than suburban.

Fort Lauderdale, Florida was one although barely, 35% for Trump vs. 34% for Broward County.  Medford, Oregon was bang on Jackson County.  It was the ultra liberal town of Ashland where Biden won big and some of the adjacent suburbs which narrowly went for Biden, while rural and smaller towns more heavily for Trump.

Lakewood was significantly more Republican than Ocean County as a whole. In fact, that's probably the biggest disparity in the country, despite Ocean already being very red.

Yeah, the Orthodox Jewish community really came out in force for Trump.

For other parts of New Jersey, Middletown voted to the right of Monmouth and Hamilton (which is actually bigger than Trenton) unsurprisingly voted significantly to the right of Mercer.

In Montana, this is true for several counties dominated by Indian Reservations, including Blaine, Big Horn, etc.

There's probably some similar patterns in the South on account of racially polarized voting--thinking of Jefferson LA in particular in addition to Halifax but I'm sure it's true of elsewhere.

North Port in Sarasota County voted less D than county as a whole.  County Trump 54.71% to Biden 44.29% while North Port was Trump 62.02% to Biden 37.01%.  Biden however won second largest city, Sarasota by over 20 points.  North Port much lower density, whiter and further from Tampa metro area as well as much inland too.

I think Santa Clara County may be the largest county where this is true, but that depends on how Fort Lauderdale voted as Broward is the only larger county where I think this may have happened. San Jose is the largest city in Santa Clara County by far, making up over 1 million of the almost 2 million people in the county overall.

Based on the SOS numbers, in 2016 San Jose voted 73.82 - 20.51 Clinton, while Santa Clara County voted 73.39 - 20.77 Clinton, making San Jose 0.69 points more Democratic than the county overall. These numbers are slightly inaccurate since they do not account for McMullin and Write-in votes, but I would be surprised if that margin drastically changed based on those votes alone.

In 2020, however, San Jose voted 71.10 - 26.85 Biden, while Santa Clara County voted 72.64 - 25.23 Biden, making San Jose 3.16 points more Republican than the county overall. The shift here swung the county as a whole, given that it cast a majority of the county's votes and it had a swing of 9.06 points to Trump, versus the 5.2 point swing for the county.

Santa Clara was honestly a huge anomaly this election since it is one of the few large counties to have the largest city vote less D than the county (indicating the suburbs are bluer than the main city, although San Jose itself is one huge suburb) and it was one of only two counties of 38 where the median income was over $100,000 (along with San Francisco) and one of only three counties of 58 with a bachelor's degree or higher percentage over 50% (along with San Francisco and New York) to shift right this election.

Yonkers also voted less D than County.  Trump got 35% vs. Westchester County average of 31.3% while Biden got 64.1% vs. 67.5% in Westchester County.  Not sure why as closer to city, less white than most of the county, and more densely populated.  Northeastern part of county which is more exurban and quite white went quite heavily for Biden so any reason for that as usually in most metro areas exurbs tend to go GOP unlike suburbs.

I believe Barnstable, MA voted to the right of its eponymous county.

Fort Lauderdale's only a few years from being taken over by Pembroke Pines regarding population. Do you know how they did over there?

My Home city, Visalia CA, voted Trump 53.07-43.26, while Tulare County as a whole voted Trump 52.8-45.0.
Visalia voted a couple of points more R than Tulare County as a whole

Rockland, NY(if Ramapo is considered one town)
Chesterfield, VA(Chester easily voted to the right of the suburbs closer to Richmond as Biden still flipped the county)
Very likely:
Beaufort, SC(Hilton Head would only have to clear 54%, which I'm pretty sure it did) and Indian River, FL(just by eyeballing precincts Sebastian may be a touch redder then the whole county)
