I remain highly skeptical of people who have certainty about the precise nature of salvation, hell, or Revelation - in my mind they are either prophets or false teachers, and one is much more likely than the other.

Because hell in the traditional sense makes it very hard for Christians to convince people that God is an all knowing, all powerful devine entity who is perfect in every way, benevolent, forgiving and loves us all. Especially if their god is willing to cast people down into the traditional version of hell to be tortured horrendously for all eternity simply for the sin of either not knowing him or simply not believing he exists.
